This was my only desired knowledge gained at my last PC about 6 weeks ago. I went in determined to get to the bottom of this question at the expense of sacrificing quality training by our top notch TK FTI's, PI's, and Standard Capts. At Security training, asked instructor "what's the deal with the Ipads?". He stated it's a done deal and should see them by the end of the year. Then, I asked our PI at FOM review, he said they dropped it altogether and we aren't getting them. Next day, asked the FTI the same question, he said they're still working on a vender, pricing, etc. Finally, on day 3, posed question to Std Capt and he said "who the hell knows. So, there you have it. That is pretty clear to me which way they're going on this. Another successful PC with plenty of knowledge gained.

The weight savings on this model are excellent, it will cut fuel expenditures by half because of 23oz difference between an Ipad and the Big Chief Notepad. It will also save the company millions since all charts will be recalled from a crewmember's memory instead of Jepp's Database. The pencil will be supplied by said crewmember.

They've signed off on jepps in one or more devices, but not necessarily the lowest bid one that UCAL will get. And the device itself will have to be certified in the aircraft for stable electrics and under extremes of temp and pressure. Each device has to prove itself environmentally regardless of its software interoperability. On this date next year I'll "top" this thread to see if we have one or not. I bet not.
