"New rag?"...for who?

Fred's now the SVP of Flight Ops at the new UAL, but this has been coming out every several months for years at old CAL under his watch. I've seen similar in years past at old UAL.

There's nothing new here. Remaining wary, vigilant, and focused 24 hours a day in a stressful, changing work environment can lead to heart disease and hypertension...breathe deep...exhale.

Everything 'he' said.

In a nutshell, nothing but Fred laced propaganda, w/ a heavy helping of JCBA company rhetoric. If you happen to miss this mailing, it's the same stuff he attempts to recite to flt crews as he ducks his head in the flt deck while doing his IAH-ORD/ORD-IAH travels.

Personally, not opening the mailer & marking "return to sender" works pretty well.

It's hard to believe that Fred would expect that "communication" to be taken seriously by any line pilot. It's almost as if the only purpose of highliting that the company wants a concessionary argreement is to bait pilots into violating the TRO.

Working together? Opportunity lost.

That opportunity was lost the day they announced the merger and let Smisek run the combined airline.

The airline industry is rife with idiot bean counters and lawyers attempting to micromanage what once was a service business. Maybe someday the legions of ignorant Board of Directors will see this and let the Operation type's back in the door to run things.

Only 500 commercial pilot certificates were applied for last year, supposedly the lowest amount on record. This profession is probably past the point of no return unless we collectively right the foundering ship.

Where did you see that only 500 commercial certificates were applied for last year? According to GAMA, over 5000 were issued as well as almost 3000 ATP's. http://www.gama.aero/files/GAMA_DATABOOK_2011_web.pdf.
Total numbers were down in both categories however. Still they are higher than 2005-2007 lows.

AOPA Online: General Aviation Trends

Commercial Certificates Issued
The number of new commercial pilot certificates issued in 2010 reached a total of 8,056. This number represents a 29% decrease compared to 2009 (3,327 less new commercial pilot certificates issued).

Default The Commercial Myth

Yeah, this myth about Commercial issuances needs to stop. I've heard all the crew room stories about a "Fed on the jumpseat said this and that". Truth is while they are significantly down (29% drop in one year is a lot), theyre still writing quite a few. A better question might be how many of those are for Americans and not foreigners learning to fly here?

Another note, I noticed the part in Abott's mailing about how 200 recalls satisfies the companys needs through 2012.

Hmmmm, thought there was another system bid at CAL in January and what about the Age 65 retirements. You really think all those 65'rs are going to leave that sick time on the table?

Me thinks not, so perhaps 200 for 2012 might be a wee bit inaccurate.

Gotta give credit to Freddo's prose on the lastest rag.

"It (the company proposal) also included a Scope proposal that spoke to the regional issue to begin dialogue on that subject."

Seriously the guy should be working for The White House with such impeccable spin. Thanks for entertaining me during my trip to the john Fred!
