Give me a break... Let's talk about what's going on at the LEC level in your union's west coast locals. You guys are about to be played.
That's quite a statement. Why don't you give us details on what you are talking about? |

I second that. Heard it saved $2m on contract to keep them updated. Why pay to have them done when you can get a pilot who gets paid $120k to volunteer to do it for free.

I'd really rather hear encouragement from both sides of the fence, rather than back-door attacks misstating that CAL pilots have earned the FAR contract they work under, as if to imply the UAL contract is better. Like the saying goes, "If we don't hang together, then surely, we shall all hang separately." |
Wait...what was the title of this thread?

I think it's best that you follow ALPA protocol & the code of ethics and have a dialog with your rep, but let's just say that for the sake of this forum, there are allegations floating around that would be worthy of serious penalties, maybe even some prison time.

Like the saying goes, "If we don't hang together, then surely, we shall all hang separately." As far as the UAL vs. CAL pilot-Johnson-sized thing, that also is political. It wasn't any fun to hear about the Wall Street rally being used to point out the differences in the CAL 777's vs. the UAL 777's either.... Just try to ignore the chaff and posturing as best you can, because none of it will matter a BIT when the time finally comes to negotiate the list. Heck, at the rate things are going, that's several YEARS from even being discussed. Cheers |
I agree Bumped! I think this is the worst thread drift I've been involved in on APC. Now back to our regularily scheduled program, iPads!!!!!!!!!!

The Ipads are in. Starting Monday stop by your chief pilot's office to get it.
|
What I cannot believe is that the iPad is an issue at all especially in comparison to EVERYTHING ELSE that is on our table. The contract and the integration of the airlines and seniority lists are what is important. The people upset about the IPad reminds me of the old school UAL guys demanding a control yoke in the 777 instead of a sidestick.

UAL Heavy you are shouting by writing in bold.
Now explain to us all how turning down the IPad will get a contract any faster? Is there some sort of economic penalty your are laying on the Company by saying "NO" to the IPad? Arguments and discussions about its use, location safety , responsibility if lost or broken and training are all valid, but how will getting a contract will fix these things??? I suppose you probably also feel being an FFDO without pay and going to training on the pilot's dime is wrong. So pilots should say "NO" to defending the cockpit unless they are trained and provided the tools at either the Company's cost or the TSA's. And forget the responsibility of carrying and IPad, just think about what an FFDO is responsible for on layovers. Shades of horrors! Dude your bullying attitude just gets the playground all wound up and does nothing to make the teacher present math any better. All it gets us is an "F." |

HVY:
Truthfully I am one of the many who "gets the big picture" about contracts and such. You are one of the "few" who just seem to bully others to achieve your goals. And ALL CAPS is shouting as well as your "bold" html typing on a blog. "Intent is intent. Caps means yelling and making things bigger, bolder and in red type would indicate a strong comment or trying to make a point. Yes, adding formatting when used selectively can certainly add to the impression one is yelling or upset. If you ask anyone to read out loud and e-mail with such formatting, they will almost always raise their voice when reading larger, bolder, red text." quote from netmatters.com |

iPads Can Delete Charts, Plates
October 23, 2011 iPads Can Delete Charts, Plates Email this article |Print this article By Russ Niles, Editor-in-Chief Those who use iPads for charts and approach plates are advised to pre-flight their devices before counting on them for navigation, thanks to Apple's latest operating system upgrade. iOS5 includes a file-management feature that might be handy if you're downloading a movie, but could be inconvenient at the very least if it messes with your navigation-app data bases. In an explanation on its website, flight-planning app provider ForeFlight says iOS5 will randomly delete data to make room for new files and that could include your charts and approach plates. The iPad does display a "cleaning" symbol by the app icon that it's busily deleting data from but that can be easy to miss. ForeFlight recommends several strategies to keep you from discovering that the latest Transformers has pre-empted the information you now need for your flight. The most obvious suggestion is to simply check that everything is as it should be before you leave. ForeFlight has built a feature into its app that checks to ensure the full data package is in place, but the operator does have to initiate that process and its best done on the ground. To prevent data from being deleted in flight, ForeFlight recommends shutting off the WiFi and 3G before takeoff. Keeping plenty of disc space available in the device will also prevent the problem from occurring in the first place. |

Why would you ever lose an iPad and pay it for when, according to the same bulletin, it can be "stolen" and it will be replaced at the company's expense?;)
Just as no one "dies" on the aircraft......In the future, all iPad that turn up missing will always be "stolen". "Pierre, I have not a clue.....someone must have stole it". |
"It was stolen? No problem, I'll start processing the paperwork for your company-paid replacement. I just need to see a copy of the police report you filed."
