I am glad we have so many representitives getting together to go over that complicated switch, the apu. I think we even have an apu vice president ( not sure if that is his official title)
Do these people really have nothing better to do? Do they think we can't figure out when to operate this part of our aircraft? Just ridiculus. |

I see another summer of CPO interns and ramp supervisors coming to the cockpit to ask why the APU is running.

Reducing APC usage must be some ill-informed rumor. I just went through some excellent CBT training to teach me the newest, most up-to-date industry best practices on operating Boeing 777s. The new procedure says to start the APU after clearing the runway, in fact we got an awesome PDF file complete with flows to show us how to do it!
In the past we would risk the APU not being ready at the gate by using our judgement to having the APU online and available to coincide with "brakes set" (about 90 seconds prior). Now, thanks to fine "brochure" training, we can start it right away after clearing the runway and not be distracted by having to turn a switch as we approach the taxing parking maneuver. I can't believe everyone who complains about this training or new procedures. Just remember, these managers know what they're doing! |

I'm sick of captains telling me not to start it after landing. I refuse to play the time-the-start game. I just let them do it.

As HSLD said, Phase Whatever training puts me in charge of that APU switch, so it is on as directed... exiting RWY 27R ORD for instance |

Here's an idea...............eliminate the fn people at the conference and the thousands they spent of food, lodging, and transportation and buy a jetway a/c unit that will actually cool the aircraft (INCLUDING THE COCKPIT), and we might possibly not start it until 5 prior. If this is not a viable solution, eliminate all a/c and heat in every office of every middle and upper manager at the new UAL and have them pipe the air in through a ground cart to their respective floor. How much money could we save if they turned the heat off in the Willis building in January and piped it in from a truck on the first floor?
Maybe that's the real reason Stankovich retired: couldn't stand the C-2 heat! |
