Default Hubs share tips on reducing fuel burn.

Representatives from the eight U.S. hubs held an APU (auxiliary power unit) Summit in Chicago recently to share best practices and tips for reducing fuel burn during ground operations.
The APU is an engine in the tail of the aircraft that helps to supply electrical power and air conditioning for the aircraft. Most jetways are equipped with ground power and air to avoid APU burn, so a priority for our ground crews is to switch to ground power as soon as possible upon arrival.
The summit addressed the best practices in use at various hubs as well as improvements stemming from integration. Attendees expressed support for future summits where we can review our progress and celebrate our fuel-saving successes.
Hmmm....fuel consumption must be up. Yeah...get those APU's off quicker...that's where all that fuel is going.

Here's an idea...............eliminate the fn people at the conference and the thousands they spent of food, lodging, and transportation and buy a jetway a/c unit that will actually cool the aircraft (INCLUDING THE COCKPIT), and we might possibly not start it until 5 prior. If this is not a viable solution, eliminate all a/c and heat in every office of every middle and upper manager at the new UAL and have them pipe the air in through a ground cart to their respective floor. How much money could we save if they turned the heat off in the Willis building in January and piped it in from a truck on the first floor?

Should have allowed us to use up our remaining vacations passes. Then I might have given a turd about your fuel, now its burn baby burn. I figure at the very least CAL owes me 40000.00 grand. Multiple that by 270 ish aircraft with ****ed off captains and now you got yourself a fuel problem. GORDON was a wise man "you take a dollar from a pilot, he'll take ten from you"

Remember the hoops we used to jump through to get those $100.00 checks, distant memories! It sucks management, SUCKS!

Your pi$$'in and moaning about VAC-Passes?????

Jeffery owes a helluva lot more than $40K starting with the bottom guy on the seniority list in retro pay alone. Do the math going exponentially North.....the toll gets quite a bit bigger as one moves up that list.

***YAWN***.....Moving along.

Burning as much fuel as possible just to stick it to management is a very short-sighted move.

Seriously.

CAL won't exist much longer into the future. You're lucky enough that the idiots in management decided to do the merger the stupid way and create a new airline with tidbits from both airlines instead of just rolling all of CAL into UAL and avoiding this royal mess. Worry about getting an industry leading contract, not burning extra fuel (which is a limited resource, and the only reason why you have your job anyway).

While engaging in cockpit public math yesterday. we conservatively figured retro for all is north of a Billion. $40k is only a good start.

I have this hilarious "vignette" floating around in my mind of a Smizek graced standards meeting where he complained about fuel burns, and throng of Asst. CP's, instuctors, and newly appointed APU deputies scamper out of the meeting into vehicles and start scouring the ramp for running APU's...jotting down tail numbers, gates and times. Meanwhile, in the back ground, dozens of planes taxi by with both engines going.
I see the bulletin as nothing more than a slight to the pilots, in yet another attempt to show insignificance.

He doesn't work for CAL or UAL. He's complaining about benefits he doesn't have for an airline he doesn't work for.

I realize that....thus sketching the broader picture beyond his myopic rant.
