new hires will be perpetually on reserve for the forseeable future, and nothing but furlough protection for the senior people when ual downsizes again--- i think any captain at a large stable regional, would be stupid to come to the bottom of a carrier like united for $30/hr ish-- but hey live for the moment

Forecast for severe turbulence ahead.

I am 97 hire I am 5th from the bottom on the right seat of the 756 in DEN. I have been in the past a line holder on 777 and a Capt on the 319/320. LCAL is going to have 99 hires holding the left seat of the 737 in Den when the most JR capt in Den at LUAL is about a 95 or 94 hire.

If this doesn't get the troops fired up I don't know what will.

Unless we get a JCBA and an ISL pretty darn quick this thing is going to implode. The inequities here are getting to be unbearable.

Airhoss, this is not pointed directly at you, but some of you guys really need to stop being emotional and be objective.

It's called whipsaw.

Jeff does not like United pilots, not that he likes Continental pilots much either, but he really doesn't like you guys. His buddy Tilton taught him that he really doesn't have much to fear about you as the courts and injunctions will keep your d!ck in the dirt.

CAL management is running the show. They showed "reasonableness" and "good faith" by allowing the whole hiring of United furloughed pilots first, but they are not going to beg guys to come work. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to know the plan has always been to grow the CAL side, it was the plan BEFORE the merger. Now they can do it and still look like the good guys.

The pilot groups do not push how management acts. Management has all the tools and the RLA on their side. Just simple tweaking and they know we will be at each other's throats.

The sad truth is a JCBA is the only way this stuff stops - then we grow as a whole. So the TPA ratio protections are a good thing. The base protections, they are good too. But we all know that 400's could be flying out of IAH and EWR and none of us could have stopped it.

So, to answer your question, of how it will go over if there is hiring off the street with United furloughs on the street - they don't care. All they have to do is tell the dumb reporters how the furloughed guys wouldn't come to work when given the opportunity, and how union politics is the root of all evil.

In the mean time, while waiting for the JCBA/SLI, this should be enough to hold you over & keep us all pi$$ed off.

UNITED DAILY (March 1st, 2012)
FORTUNE names United world's most admired airline on Thursday FORTUNE magazine ranked United No. 1 in its annual airline industry list of the world's most admired companies. The magazine also ranked us No. 1 for global competitiveness and long-term investment among 12 global carriers. “Despite a year of weather and integration challenges, you helped us achieve an impressive 2011 profit, allowing us to distribute $265 million in profit sharing, all while running a clean, safe and reliable airline,” Jeff said. “The recognition from FORTUNE is more proof of the great work you’re doing for the new United. I’m proud to be on your team.”

But "hey, Jeff's proud of us".....At least we got that going for us.

I would be VERY surprised if that happens. MOST of the DEN commuters are B756/B777 guys who are very senior. They MAY bid down to the 73 so they won't have to commute so if that happens, it will be a senior base. Heck, I'm happy (well not really) to be in EWR and have no plans of going anywhere. Most of the guys I know have no plans of going to ORD/DEN either, and since there's only a few below me at EWR (I'm a 98 hire) I doubt you'll see much in the way of JR captains holding DEN. JMHO

That wasn't really a "question".

If a regional captain wants to come to a major, he will be on reserve. If he doesnt want to come here...so be it. I suspect once the retirements kick in and hiring picks up, time on reserve will tolerable, unlike what many at both CAL and UA have experienced for years now

That is the BEST endorsement of the United pilot group I've ever heard. :)

i guess tolerable will depend on the work rules. dont forget over 1000 guys passed on the cal return to work act. they are just waiting for a jcba, their other job to fizzle, or retire from the military--- they will wonder after 3-4years why they keep moving down and not up- even with retirements, new flight/duty,
im just saying its pretty risky to leave a nice 5-10 year regional capt slot to come to the uncertainty that is untied
