Per SFO Council Chair, Dan Hahn, the ALPA wireless signal has been turned off in SFO operations. We will be discussing this as an agenda item at the local council meeting on the 4th.

The main precipitating factor was the SFO flight office advising iPad users to use the ALPA resource because the UAL company WiFi was not adequate to update the iPads.

The ALPA computer and 2 hard wire Ethernet cables will not be affected.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We may be able to reassess in the future depending on our cheap ass flight office and company response.

Really?

Just have the router block the site access for ipad updating. No ipad updates for the Marvin's and their shiny new gizmo. Wireless access continues for the rest of us.

Again, ALPA thinks they are flashing their muscle when they are really showing what little brain capacity they have.

It's a good point, if someone has the technical expertise to implement that. I'm not a techie, so I don't know how difficult that would be. Maybe block the update site at the router ? Volunteer your services to C34 if you can make this work !

Exactly, I'd love to see that solution.

The idea is sound, but the implementation is much more complex. For a corporation to rely on a second, or third party resource as part of their business model is laughable.

As I understand, the C34 router is for the benefit and convenience of the ALPA C34 members, not for UAL operations.

Maybe, but Mickey Mouse just lost that option, now what?

As I said, it will be discussed and options considered at our meeting on the 4th. ALPA is us. If you decide not to participate, then you really should not complain.

Turning it back on with restrictions will be one of the options.

Is there an underlying issue that would prevent blocking site access?

Good job out there! If they want us to have the "tools" (as useless as they are for now) to do the job, give us the tools to actually do the job.
