If you are an XJT pilot, those are not your company's own aircraft. Every single one painted in express colors is owned/leased by UCH (page 27). UCH buys all the gas. UCH leases the gates. UCH pays the landing fees. UCH owns and sells every seat. At the end of the day UCH simply pays XJT to hire crews to operate the aircraft.
Although it calls itself an airline, at the core XJT is just really a employee staffing company and it's profitability is based on the difference between what CAL pays it and what XJT pays it's employees. And yes, we are working on taking the flying back. Perhaps you noticed that the UAL and CAL pilots are in the middle of contract talks and scope is one of the next sections at the table? :D |

Trust me, I'm all for you guys taking back every last bit of this regional flying. I never once envisioned that I'd be at a regional as long as I have. I want to move on more than you'll ever know. My only question is why do so many of you insist on taking this all out on the regional pilots? Last I checked, not one of us negotiated YOUR scope clause, voted on it or signed off on it. Why is it our fault? Why do we get treated crap? Why are the snide comments directed at us? I'm just trying to do what I need to do to get out of here and do my job. I fly where I'm told.
If mainline put as much energy into recapturing scope as they did hating on the regionals it'd be amazing what they'd get done. |

It has been said before, but it would appear that you need some reminding. Your "peers" at UAL and DAL were at the forefront of creating the "C" scale wages I and my colleagues work under. They (and maybe you) decided that they were too good to fly the "barbie" jets and that they would rather take a pay raise and promises of widebody growth over keeping that flying in-house. Well fella, that opened up Pandora's Box. I never set out on this career path to fly as XXXXXX Express and be a whipping boy to not only your airline, but mine as well. My heart's desire is to fly for an airline that actually sells its own tickets. Instead; 7 1/2 years later, I am still here, flying airplanes painted in XXXXXX Express colors. I've endured a lot of crap and watched as my former halfway decent Continental pass benefits were wiped out (including vacation passes) with the stroke of a pen.
So until you and your peers man-up and decide to take back what is most definitely "your" flying, I'm left trying to make this life & career work. If me having priority on my company's own aircraft is so distasteful to you, then take the flying back. Please. But until then, remain calm and deal with it. We don't have much; and after enduring age 65, this is really the only tangible benefit my family and I have left. |

Nope, try again. You're NOT getting "hosed" by express employees. You're getting hosed by the management at United Airlines. When people wake up and realize this fight ISN'T with each other but against J-Lo and company, they'll probably sleep better at night.
Open up your scan, increase your SA. People can cry foul all they want about what the express employee "should" do. Sure, just like the 2 years the JS glitch existed. There were PLENTY of mainline pilots that "should" have done the "right thing". Nope, didn't stop them exploiting the crap out of that issue. Let me show you how the professionals deal with it. (By the way, it's happening on my oversold flight again tonight... A 2006 Express employee is at the top of the standby list on mainline. I have to burn a vacation pass to beat him. I'll take the Jumpseat, but ONLY if the agents use my seat to get the next in line UAL employee on....). First, I'm not going to deny the Jumpseat to anyone. Second, I'm going to file the correct paperwork with ALPA AGAIN (which clearly does nothing). Third, if my vacation pass gets me a seat, I'm going to stand at the podium and make sure the agents give that seat to the correct person in line. If they do, I'll take the Jumpseat. Fourth, I'm going to file a grievance against UAL demanding my vacation pass back as I should have been number 1 on the standby list. Fifth I'm going to whine about it on the forum :) What I'm NOT going to do is go up to this poor kid and hand him some stupid letter about my plight and how I'm going to deny him and his company the Jumpseat. How's that for SA? That's a rhetorical question. I don't care what you think |
Well, sorry gettinbumped. I used to enjoy your postings as you seemed to be pretty level headed and had to the big picture of what's going on. Now, sorry, not so much.
Take care. |

Take care. I'm going to use a vacation pass on every flight to get ahead of the UAX employees on mainline metal and then file a grievance to get them back until this gets fixed. By the way, I had several people question whether I knew what I was talking about, suggesting that the UAX employee was probably a DHer etc. I assured them I did, but the allegations continued. So to prove it, I just had a friend of mine (UAX) list round trip on an RJ flight down, and then back on my flight tonight which is mainline. 2005 hire UAX employee straight to the top of the list, right behind the vacation passes. Hopefully the naysayers will quit questioning it. |
By the way... I not mad at UAX employees. I'm mad at UAL Management. THAT'S who I'm filing a grievance against. If I was mad at UAX employees I'd tell them not to bother trying to Jumpseat. Those that purposely game the system knowing what they are doing are losers. Just like the UAL pilots who gamed the system to get the jump during the last computer glitch were losers. I'm peeved at the entire system. I'm taking it out on people on this board who are suggesting I don't know what I'm talking about, or hypocritically suggest that I shouldn't be furious at missing another night at home thanks to UAL management messing up the computer system when these very pilots treated me like a child with their stupid threats and letters a few years ago on a route that was stolen from me in Bankrupcy on a plane that my paycuts are paying the fuel bill for.
Then I get some guy whining about how scope has ruined his life and he didn't get what he signed up for because I'm personally responsible for him getting stuck in his seat thanks to scope relaxation. Never mind that he should have known better as he was hired in 2005 and scope was given up in 1995, 2000, and 2003. I keep hearing how I gave up scope to pad my fat wallet, when 75% of the RJ's that matter (70 seats) were given up in the same contract that cost me my pension and a 50% paycut. So yeah, I'm annoyed |
Wow. I just re-read all that. I've become a bitter old man. Thanks United!!! Pass the Tylenol.

No problem. You're the one who told me to open my eyes and increase my SA. All I know is I'm going to have to burn a vacation pass to avoid being left behind at the gate for a 2006 UAX employee on a mainline flight.

The point I made before STILL stands that I think you glossed over. Because when they do this boarding priority fiasco fixed back to the way it's SUPPOSED to be, there will STILL be certain UAX employees that get to enjoy a HIGHER priority even on mainline equipment. And to make the point again, that was done between the UAX carrier and the former CAL now UAL management when management positions at the UAX level were eliminated. As as I said before, I hope that makes you, and EVERY other UAL employee mad, it should. So mad that you keep on your management to get rid of it. Because the ordinary UAX employees got a below industry average pass travel program with the new United, while these current and former management scum got an ELEVATED priority. All the whilst screwing up how they run out companies. |

I just can't remember as I thought round 1 and round 2 were spaced kind of far apart. Judge Wedoff let that thing go on so long I can't remember. |
