Hey now! Everybody look what's going down!

Our ex EAL'ers are all saying that this is starting to feel and look a lot like CAL/EAL. Cal is growing, UAL is being shrunk, that is undeniable.

We were supposed to be recalling and even hiring by this fall. We were supposed to have a major bid coming out this fall. It ain't happening in fact we have such a surplus of pilots they are handing out unpaid leaves.

We are not taking on ANY growth airplanes in fact any and all airplane orders are replacements only for smaller lower paying airframes.

In the meanwhile CAL is taking on new airplanes, hiring like gang busters and growing primarily at L-UAL domiciles and to the detriment of UAL pilots in general. Ours is a net loss, CAL's is a net gain, plain and simple.

This is no accident, it's not mismanagement, it's planned, it's well orchestrated and it's a prime example of leveraging one group by benefiting it, while abusing and depleting the other side.

Nothing has changed for the positive on this side since this "merger" began in fact my living and working conditions have only gotten worse by a large degree. I don't know of any pilots on the L-UAL side who could say their experience has been positive or that they've benefited from any of this mess. No upgrades, no movement, still being paid bankruptcy wages, and now we are being threatened with a pilot surplus while the CAL side is hiring and moving like crazy.

You can rationalize it any way you want but these are the facts on this side of the tracks.

So suprising

We've all seen this play before.

IMHO, UCH is lobbying a yes (50% plus one) vote for the AIP/TA/JCBA by using fear, uncertainty, and doubt. It's not a coincidence that we find ourselves backed up against the nasty TPA expiration sections on the anticipated timeline for membership ratification.

And if the AIP/TA/JCBA is voted down that also works for UCH since the flying ratio and other key sections of the TPA will no longer be a factor.

It's all straight out of the playbook.

Trust me, nobody is happy on the CAL side either. Our wide body flying has been evaporated, our staffing levels are a joke, and our pay is still from concessions. Even with this bid we are smaller then we were before the age 65 change. The only reason we have movement is because of aircraft deliveries that were coming WAY before the merger and finally retirements.

Safety first. At all times and in all things. Wasn't it something like that? Don't allow Jeff Lorenzo to distract you from job one.

Not really an accurate statement. Over 200 new captain positions and guys flooding to new bases to elimiate commutes. There are many very happy guys right now.

I'd say this was very accurate.

Your quip about the commute elimination is correct but that's about the only bright spot and I don't seem to be flying with too many "happy" people.

Quick question, you really don't seem too pleased with CAL or its Pilot group so why did you take the recall over here?

Actually completely accurate. Almost Half those NEW captains are retirements and the rest are still not back to our levels before. You can have your bases and I'll take my 25k a yr pay cut back for loosing 76 flying.

Another spin to this. United is said to be 400 pilots surplus right now. Cal needed 3-400 pilots for rest rules deadline but also for new contract (think combined company may need 800 or so pilots). Contract will be UA work rules plused up a little. If there was a building of one side and a destruction of another, then why bring the 739 order to UAL to replace the 752s? Wouldn't it be better to bring them over to Cal? Maybe it's not be a malicious as we think.

Disclaimer: our mgmt is horrible and are haters of labor, especially pilots.

We have more retirements than CAL starting in DEC. UAL is asking for LEAVES. We have NO bids, not half for retirements, NONE. Do you not find that odd? What is going on, in your opinion?

"Levels before"??? what has that got to do with anything? I want my old Captain seat back, or at least my 777 rt. seat, but I don't see what that has to do with the merger going forward.
