Fair enough.

We should find out in 6 months or so what the latest "plan" is for realignments.

What about "hoover" or "super hoover"?

It's just what we called them at UAL. Its not derogatory, etc. Yes, the 737 was the smallest aircraft and paid the least.

Yes, those 173 seat 737's are impressive airplanes, but guys are just used to calling anything that's a 737 a "guppy". Its not an insult, its just what we call them. We also call the 747 the "400" because we also used to fly the 747-200 that we called the "ropestart".

To add on ... the 400 was also called the whale ... the 777 was called "Big Foot" three trucks, the 757 was called sexy lady - big jugs thin with long legs ... the DC8 was called the Diesel. No one should think guppy is deragatory unless they have "something to compensate for?"

Ok just so no one will forget.

Again the 747 and the 737 were designed at approximately the same time. The 747 was knick named the "whale" and the 737 the "guppy."

One was the big fish and the other the little one in the pond.

When the CFM engined 737 came out the straight piped JT8D also became known as the "thunder guppy" because of their comparative noise to the quieter -300s.

If you're offended by the names then I guess it's true what they say about a pilot's wife and her ability to measure a foot.

And the oddly shaped engine intakes and nacelles on the 737-300/500 really sealed the deal for the "guppy" moniker.

Were you the Air Force General that mandated the C-5 would not, under any circumstance be called FRED? Your memo only insured the nickname would never die...

google wiki C-5 FRED for a good chuckle.

oh come on. Guppy is a very old and venerable name for the 737, better get used to it because at L-UA that's what we call it, and that's not going to change anytime soon even though now it looks more like a Dolphin. or a morae Eel.

I quit. I cannot work here for another 30 years with people calling the 737 a guppy. I turned in my papers today......please give me a little change when you see me hanging outside the blue line station in downtown Chicago.
