APA TA Comparison
Recently, the Allied Pilots Association (APA) reached a tentative agreement with American Airlines management. We were not able to include the TA in the contract comparison that we sent to you last week. The contract comparison is also available on the www.unitedpilotagreement.com website. The APA TA was based in part on provisions achieved in the United Pilot Agreement TA, and was strongly influenced by the gains that we achieved. This is not unusual, given the principles of pattern bargaining and recognition by AA management that an agreement, necessary for the airline to successfully emerge from bankruptcy and remain a viable operation, must offer some value to its pilots in order to be ratifiable. However, while APA was able to improve upon AMR’s last, best, final offer, theirs is still an agreement crafted within the confines of bankruptcy reorganization, and there remains a gap between the APA TA and ours. Some of the differences are highlighted below. In general, ratification of the APA TA is assumed in Jan. 2013; ratification of the United Pilot Agreement is assumed in Dec. 2012.

Pay Comparison:
A pay comparison of 12-year captain rates is below. It is important to note that in 2016, the APA TA includes an adjustment clause, which will take a snapshot of pay rates across DAL, UAL and USAirways to provide a “snap up” to rates that are composed of a weighted average of available seat miles (ASMs) flown by each carrier (or a two percent increase if higher – although this is unlikely). Because the ASMs may vary over time, an estimate is provided below based on current percentages. You will notice “incumbent” rates for the B-737 and B-763. These rates can be loosely described as pay rate protections for pilots who are currently holding a bid on those aircraft and may lose their seat. These incumbent rates are no longer in effect with the 2016 snap up./p>
Because the B-752 is banded with the B-763, it has a higher than normal pay rate relative to its size and mission. This is particularly noticeable in 2016 after the snap-up.

Reserve Assignment/Pay
Generally, the reserve assignment process optimizes the assignment of reserves by matching a reserve pilot’s days of availability with the length of the open sequences, while minimizing late-in, early-out assignment of sequences. Reserve pilots will be selected for assignment based on a Reserve Priority Value (RPV). It is difficult at best to compare our two reserve systems. The system described in the UAL TA is more incentivized than the AMR system. Both utilize a long-call/short-call type of system and a FIFO callout system with caveats.

Reserve Pay Guarantee: 73 Hours (unchanged). UAL TA is the same – 73 hours, but it can be increased by converting RDO's to CDO's or VDO's, and for unused Short Calls or Field Standbys, and for excessively assigned Short Calls and Field Standbys.

A reserve pilot may be assigned reserve flying up to eighty-five (85) hours (PROJ). Voluntary flying on days off is excluded in the assignment maximum, unless approved in advance by the Company. UAL TA allows assignments up to 90 hours (scheduled) and 92 hours (actual). These limits may be waived by pilot notification or action (i.e. aggressive pick up of flying over the 5/9 limit). UA pilots may voluntarily fly on days off by converting days off to reserve days or CDOs or VDOs.

Uh. Not exactly. $205 v $184 in 2014. Not that I would make my decision on 1 fleet's pay rate in a certain year anyway.

My buds at AA disagree with you but I am sure your good friend Fred is getting wood at the thought of getting another shot to renegotiate using the APA TA vice just DALs. Oh yea, what do you think the price of oil will be when Iran is attacked? Their scope is also considerably worse...thought that was a big issue. But apparently it is really the 752 slight that drew your blood. Bid off if u don't like it but don't ask for Single pilot group pay when you are part of a horribly whipsawed and controlled divided union. Apparently part of the reason we couldn't get Nmb to go for DAL rates right away. Until its fixed we don't deserve any more than LCC crews.

Why is the Union spending the time to compare this contract with an airline that is in bankruptcy? Because it is crummy.
Don't open the door and allow 76 seat jets at UAX. They can be reconfigured overnight to seat 88 passengers.
What airplane replaced the 100 seat jet at American (F-100 and B-717)? The CL-65/700 at Eagle, 70 seats in one class configuration and 66 with two. To get 76 seats, a larger air frame is required (CL-65/900). Two class cabin 76 seats, which SkyWest has been flying for Delta since 2007. However Mesa fly's it with 88 seats for US Airways.
We can't afford to let this happen. The 50 seater's are going away due to economics.

Sorry to rain on your parade. But what bids? sUAL impossible to bid off anything. No bids, unless you can hold a SFO-400 bid that the ORD guys will probably take care of anyway during their closure--which BTW only pays 767 rates.

sUAL 757's take it in the shorts twice on this TA. First because someone insisted on pay banding, we get guppie rates.

Then, again, because we get guppie rates, we get far less retro that we would have other wise.

Then further to add insult, after the first year, after the blended pay rates go away, and we go to specific 757 rates, we on the west coast, will take a pay cut, because again, someone decided we HAD TO HAVE PAY BANDING. West coast doesn't see any 767's, hence the pay cut.

With all that said, I am still leaning toward voting yes, becasue we have got to stop fighting each other, get the SLI done and move on.

Because some pilots have been saying that the APA TA is better than ours and the union didn't have their updated TA information to include in the various slides, CrewsNews information, etc. If they had not given the APA information for us to digest, the union would have been accused of hiding or ignoring the AA TA for some other conspiracy reason.

Reading APA's TA bullet points that came out a few weeks ago certainly don't give the full picture nor do they have context. I have no problem with the union giving us some comparisons with AA now that they have the information. I personally don't think their TA is anything to rave about and feel ours is better.

But let's be clear, I'm still voting NO because I don't think OUR TA is where it should be.

^ So..
The "Complete Operational Merger Date" is the date in which we have a Integrated Seniority List.
Our own Union has told us (though, not sure what to believe anymore) that it would take roughly 6 months after we had a JCBA till we had a ISL.
IF this POS TA passes, I will assume (hate to do that) that we may see the ISL around Apr/May 2013 timeframe.
One year later, the 1:3.5 Rig would begin. NOT Jan 2014!
