I don't know what qualifies as low-time vs high-time anymore. In the 90's at some majors, 600hrs meant low-time. Today, 3,000hrs could be low-time.

I'm in the same boat as JoeyMeatballs. I'll be 7th year FO soon. Most of this time scraping the bottom of lineholder status or reserve. For those of us with between 4-6,000hrs of TT, most of which is turboprop and/or jet, who are still FOs due mostly to the age 65 effect, where do we stand? Do we deserve to get hired into the right seat of a 737 with no 121 PIC time? I wonder what the hiring depts think.

You are less qualified than the Captains, so you will be considered after them.

United used to have a bubble form, and every category you could fill out would put you higher up on the list to be interviewed.

If you can't fill out the "PIC Turbine" bubbles....you are at a disadvantage.

I'm not sure if they use that form right now, but it's hard to move ahead of the "PIC turbine" crowd unless you fall into one of the other "preferential hiring" categories.

For an example.....we had many people go to the right seat of the jets when my commuter got them. I went to the left seat of the Brasilia and was hired before all of the senior F/O's with more total time than me. They didn't care about "jet time", just "PIC Turbine".

Since most want 1000+ PIC, I think the captains at regionals would be hired first, but what do I know? Good luck to all.

CV addressed this at the Miami job fair last week. Said the new united will not have a TPIC requirement and they are well aware of guys stuck in the right seat for 6-7 years. They said they are looking for quality individuals as anyone can swing a gear and fly the plane. He said you need to make yourself stand out from the crowd. Hope that helps......

Wish I had the days off to make it to the fair last week. Did he specify at all what makes one "stand out from the crowd" in his eyes? Did they address internal recommendations and whether or not they mean anything to them?

Yes, basically said not just a normal line pilot. Be involved in your airline, be involved in your community, etc.

Don't recall him talking about internal recs.... I think I'm behind in that department. I only have 9, but I'm sure all the expressjet guys probably have 20+ if I had to guess. Seems like half of Cal was express at one point in time.

Don't know if job fairs are worth it but the way I see it is I can't afford NOT to go to them. So ill be at every one until I get hired...

United never had the TPIC requirement (not sure about CAL). That's how many of the interns and other low time folks got hired. (Notice that I did not say that ALL interns were low time).

They still look at the most qualified people first (unless you fit into a special category).
