UAL Interns, etc

Just wondering if the pre-merger practice of Interns, former employees and Sons/daughter at UA will get put in a separate pile for interviews? Seems like the old CO folks are running the hiring these days, just wondering if one of the better bennies for being associated with UAL is still gonna be around? Thoughts? Facts? SWAGs?

Might be the only one but I always thought the best practice would be to hire the most qualified applicant regardless of who someones mother or father might be.

I am a former CAL intern, a good friend of mine is a former UAL intern. He was told (by CV) all interns from both groups will be looked at. How they decide I'm not sure, but seems like both will get a fair shot.

Word on the street is the first batch of interviews (after the poolies) is being offered to interns, kids of managers, kids of parents who know managers, etc. Not too surprising considering both companies operated that way, IMHO.

I personally have not seen anything official concerning former UA employees like UA used to do.

Im all for hiring the most qualified as long as they can check their ego at the door during the interview.

"as long as they can check their ego at the door"

It's a miracle any of us got hired then.

UAL hired about 1000 people in 1995. About 100 were interns.

UAL hired about 1000 people in 1997, and I think there were only about 5-10 interns hired.

I was told that UAL regretted picking up some of these kids with low time. Many actually had a really bad attitude and were just too lacking in experience compared to their counterparts.

There is no reason we should interview anyone with less than 4,000 hours (until we run out of applicants during the "pilot shortage").:D

...a 1000 fighter guy will suffice

Are you guys sure flight times are the golden rod? RJs are slowly becoming as large as narrow body airplanes (which I am not in favor of). Some start ups and LCCs hire Fos at around 2500-3000 hours for 737s and A320s with no problems.

Even Atlas and Miami air hire 2000-3000 pilots for 747s and 737s.

Just making a bit of debate, but after about 3000 hours does it really matter, esp in today's career path (ie RJs).

This post is a question, not a comment of my opinion.

Without getting into a silly mil-vs-civ debate....

IMHO, having flown with both "low time" pilots (interns or otherwise) and "1000hr fighter guys", it depends more on the individual than the hours in the logbook. 90% of are just fine and it's the other 10% that fill out both ends of the bell curve.
