Official Seniority Lists
#1
Can someone answer this question for me?
I just saw the certified seniority lists both sides submitted to the arbitration panel. I've never looked, because I've relied on what I heard on this forum for exactly where the CAL pilots were at the merger date by the DOH seniority, etc.
The date on the lists are as of May 17th, 2010. The snapshot date at which the seniority is being integrated.
On this list the most junior CAL Captain has his DOH listed as 04/17/2001 and his position is EWR 737 CA. To find the #2 most junior Captain you have to go all the way up to a 02/05/1996 hire date and his position as GUM 737 CA. What's even more weird is that the pilots hired AFTER the 1996 hire Captain were hired in 1998.
I'm just wondering how this one guy got a Captain bid, and then everybody else is listed as a FO? So 5 years between the two junior Captains? Even if he wasn't really hired at CAL until 1998, how are there 3 years between them?
On the UAL list the most junior UAL Captain is a 11/25/1996 hire, a SFO A-320 Captain.
So when I looked at the statement of "Captains should be merged with Captains" I realized....
Instead of making the junior Captains the same seniority, someone like me was placed roughly 2,400 seniority numbers behind the most junior CAL Captain, even though the most junior UAL Captain at the time of the merger was about 600 numbers JUNIOR to me.
Did I miss something?

As to the strange dates of hire, it may be due to our Expressjet flow through. Because Expressjet was owned by Continental their "DOH" is their Expressjet DOH while their placement on the CAL seniority list is the date the began work at the mainline. So looking at the 1998 DOHs you can see interspersed at regular intervals amongst them are 1995 DOHs. These are Expressjet pilots who flowed up in 1998. The have pass privileges and some other things at their 1995 DOH but bid positions and equipment in their place amongst the 1998 hires.
Don't know if that helps, or explains it.

LAX is talking about the actual pre-merger CAL and UAL seniority lists that each side submitted. For UAL pilots they are available (along with numerous other exhibits) for download on the UAL MEC website (ual.alpa.org) under the links for the Merger Committee (requires log-in).
The UAL integrated seniority list proposal has not been made public and will presumably be introduced in May during UAL's presentation.

In May 2010 CAL had 147 furloughs and captain was a bit more senior, but I don't think 2001 was out of line. Why the big gap I don't know.
