As a CAL furloughed guy...one of the 143 sacrificial lambs....I am really disappointed with the furlough integration. The CAL pilot group did the "right thing" when they needed to hire because of growth/demand, and instead of going to the streets they asked United guys to come to work. I should have had 600 guys below me. That coupled with the continued pilot demand and hiring at United comes from the Continental pilot group not United. I've been set back 5 years easy with the way they integrated the furlough list and despite having been recalled for 2.5 years I will likely get furloughed soon after being pushed to the bottom. I can't wait to see the justification for how they integrated the furloughed guys. Not sure I can ever respect the UAL group at this point...we did the "right thing" and got United guys a pay check and it turned out to screw us.

I never expected it to be accepted and quite frankly am content it wasn't. With that in mind, we need to move forward. I understand both sides have there heartburn and outrage, but at the end of the day I don't disagree with much that the arbs wrote. Anyone that lacks the character to prevent their glee or outrage from making it to the line needs a blanket party ASAP.

Continetal asked United guys to go to work???????!!!!!!!!!! Growth/Demand?????? We were ONE company!!!!! Growth was OURS not YOURS!!!!!! Dude, this sense of entitlement makes me flippin' bonkers!!!!!!! We were one company - UNITED AIRLINES - we may not have had an SLI yet but it was ONE COMPANY. The corporation HAD to offer the jobs to UNITED furloughed pilots!!!!!!!! To do otherwise would have been idiotic. What part of a MERGER do you not get???????? 3 independent men heard all the arguments and agreed NEITHER company was gonna do great alone. The merger was the best deal for everyone. Continental did not do the "RIGHT THING"; they did the ONLY thing. They merged. Aviation is a competitive industry. United furloughed pilots got furloughed. You lost a couple of months seniority. GET OVER IT! |

I lost more than a couple of months. I lost years. Went from 81% to 91%. While our MC missed the mark by a lot, I think career expectations where not even factored or weighted by the arbs. However try and be a little more respectful that it could be a tough pill for some. I spent hours in the cage at jui jitsu tonight and I still feel like it was a raw deal for a large group of CAL guys, myself included. Most of the non-scabs and not old CAL guys got crushed with this decision. |

EVERY UAL furloughee will be furloughed OUT of seniority order for a period of 5 years starting yesterday. |

Also, your intimation that having off the street hires versus LUAL furloughees behind you since the merger would have somehow helped you is flawed. Seriously, read the award with an objective, open mind. |

You can't hire new pilots to an airline while leaving furloughed ones on the street. Based on the ISL, you came back from furlough OUT OF SENIORITY and should be glad that YOU were able to get a paycheck. |

BTW...kudos to the UA MC...they orchestrated and played the changes to the ALPA merger policy too their strong advantage and the arbitrators believed in their methodology. All along I felt that many CAL pilots were going to be disappointed with the result. I kept an open mind about what I personally considered fair to a guy who worked the same amount of time as myself but happened to be furloughed. I'm really OK with the list, at least as it pertains to me and where I sit on it. It would really do me no good to expend any energy on the outcome and getting mad about it. I'd rather continue going to work being in a good mood than p***ed off at the world and miserable. |

Did you read the decision? I am thinking not. Here is what you need to read: C. CONCLUSIONS ABOUT THE BUILD MODELS The primary failing of the CAL proposal's use of only status, to the virtual exclusion of all other Merger Policy factors, is that it unfairly, inequitably and disproportionately benefits one pilot group to the consequent detriment of the other. If either group proposed using any other single Merger Policy factor alone, like longevity, the resulting list would also be distorted, but in a different direction. Another defect of the CAL Committee's proposed ISL is that it unjustifiably creates extremely large tiers of pilots from a single airline. Some such distortions are inevitable in any merger of seniority lists. But the career-long blocking effect of those spawned by the CAL proposal could harm morale and employee relations for decades to come. 22 The CAL Committee's use of an April 1, 2013 base list date is manifestly intended to embrace the windfall of potential Captain upgrades in February 2014, generated by premerger CAL System Bid 14-02. Memorializing that windfall by treating captains (or at least some captains) as fungible equals irrespective of aircraft, while treating others as “unneeded”, is not a bone fide status & category ratio. And simply disregarding longevity as an equity factor seems engineered to justify the unfair stapling to the bottom of the list all United pilots in furlough status on May 3, 2010. |
