I did landings two weeks ago after a couple of weeks of waiting. The cal sim was running and certified to use but the techs were working out a few visual issues. Used the 777b. I think the instructor issue may be a plausible cause. Heard all cal instructors will reinterview. Many are not happy with current situation thus leaving plenty of opportunity for ual 757 instructors to fill there spots. I could care less who shows up for the ride, just get me out early to make my flight home. Gotta love the politics of this industry.

777 CAL instructors do not have to reinterview. The openings that occur are triggered two ways.
1. Some current instructors don't want to move or commute to Denver.
2. If a surplus occurs, by seniority order, the junior ones will return to the line regardless if were prior CAL or UAL.
Those bumped have displacement right to other fleet sim jobs.
756 may go through same process next year.

Have the whole month of October off because of the backlog.. tough times.
The former CAL sim is up and running, but the backlog is still pretty deep.
On a side note, we used a former UAL sim for our bounces. I hope the UAL triples are in better shape than the sims, because that one was a piece of junk.

Perused one of the ther forums and found this little nugget:
"....... One guy claimed to be a Navy Seal, turned out he wasn't even in the military. Most of the old Honolulu guys know who it was. Pretty pathetic........"
"His last name wasn't Sharp was it. I just got out of the Marine Corps and several of us were sitting at the Guam Hilton Hotel having a few beers at night, and this jerk-off challenges me to swim out to the surf and back. He stated that he was a Navy Seal. Once I questioned his credentials he admitted that he wasn't."

The CAL instructors had the best deal in the industry and it was probably why they tended to hang out in the school house for so long. They were allowed to commute on their days 'on', had free room and transportation and lived a very good life. The new deal is a pretty big cut in pay and lifestyle so I imagine a lot are leaving for other things, especially because of the pay.
That might explain the current listing for 777 instructor positions. The backup works for me. My last trip for the month starts soon and still no date for me. Enjoy it while you can I guess.
