Historically, there haven't been newhire classes after early/mid May. There's a class thread now for early June. When's the last time there was a June newhire class?
If the plan is to hire continuously through the summer, they will need more vacancy bids because there won't be enough unfilled vacancies to offer all newhires a position. There were 208 unfilled vacancies in V1508; that will only last ~2 !/2 months worth of new hire classes so they'll have to do another large vacancy bid within the next couple of months. They could simply make it EWR 737/320/756 FO to generate the greatest number of unfilled vacancies, but they'll need unfilled vacancies if they continue to hire.

Although the economy's moving along in slow growth mode, loads are near record highs for all airlines. Management's trying to pick up as many aircraft on the open market (new and used) that they can and delaying aircraft retirements. I think it's the right call because I expect overall passenger traffic to continue to grow.
