No, both shareholders were given United Continental Holdings stock.

Not correct.

UCH is simply the pre-merger UAL Corporation which was renamed as a result of the merger. Thus, pre-merger UAL stockholders did not receive any new stock.

(And yes, I've won lots of beers over this topic. Hint: it is all in the merger prospectus available on the UA Investor Relations website and explains why technically CAL was purchased by UAL in an all stock transaction using UAL stock as the form of payment. Not that it matters at all in 2013.)

No. United bought Continental. Used the old CAL operating certificate, kept the HQ in Chicago and the name the same. Add the CAL pilots to the existing United Pilot Seniority List.

If you had UAL stock pre-merger, its exactly the same. They just added the name Continental to the existing corporate structure.

CAL is in the history books along with TWA, Northwest, etc.
