But you and I have a lot of power. Especially when it comes to how we chose to respond. If we set aside the ego and make an honest effort, there's a lot we can learn from each other.

Agreed. But I think first we have to have a future.

During our contract talks before the merger talks, the hat was a big deal, some thought the idea dumb, but it did show everyone around you, who was making an effort vs. the management suck ups. That is why the hat was a big deal on our side. So, my bet is not many will wear it.

I just finished a 3 day and most guys aren't wearing a hat by about a 4 to 1 margin. Even in EWR I didn't see many guys out there with hats. When we did it was usually an older Captain (probably a scab).

Coincides with my observations as well. I don't often get to EWR, but when I do, I'm the most interesting man in the..., oh....and I don't wear a hat! :D

The uniform police were out later that day in EWR

Why do I wear a hat?

Simple, I "look marvelous" in it. http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/im...es/redface.gif

Well, when we finally have competent management, and treats us like other than 4th graders, maybe the hat thing will die down. Till then, good luck getting your hotels and crew vans.

No it isn't about the hat... the hat is just the medium...

for example... if CPO says wear your hat and you say no, you aren't disciplined for the hat per se, but rather, ignoring or disregarding a supervisor's directive as supported by US law....

In this case, the hat is flawed, the company admits it.. and the pilots have been keeping flight operations together with their failures....

so the CPO isn't going to ding anyone for not wearing the hat... they just don't have the capacity to do that... but more importantly as pilots, by wearing the hat you are enabling and excusing failure....

Don't complain when the next company responsibility is a failure and you're expected to accept it anyway.... cause you just did with your horny hat.

Well said.

The crazy part is that we've been run by hacks like Pete McDonald for so long that many here simply accept it as fact that things like hats matter and that we should be scared. Screw the fact that we lost a billion in fuel hedges over the last year, well north of a billion in revenue on the Shares debacle (the gift that keeps on giving), and likely some very large number in Jan 14 re: the changeover of Jan 14 (records management for training, the 117 implementation fiasco, LCAL PBS and CCS all happening over one week).

We're being run by a bunch of hack regional airline managers that are worried about whether we fall into line by wearing our hats in conjunction with our clown uniforms. Yeah, let's worry about that instead of the fact that we're under-performing Delta by north of a billion a year despite a substantial wage differential in our favor. Hats... yep, that's the issue holding us back.

Scott
