115 Guppy Capts in the last two bids for EWR. Is this growth, replacement, or combination thereof?

Long overdue!

Probably a combination of growth in EWR and the retirement of 757s.

Guess this means they aren't opening a SFO 787 domicile on time for the KIX or even the CTU flight.

They will just man it from LAX...that would be my guess. The flights between SFO and LAX usually have 10 must rides going back and forth.

According to the EWR CPO update, the SFO 787 base is opening in the fall.

Chief Pilot Meeting in ORD: I was also in Chief Pilot meetings in ORD last week discussing issues more dear to your hearts. Here are some of the highlights of things to come. You can expect another large bid in the near future to nail down the summer flying. There will be new sub bases opening this year. SFO 787, IAD 737 (Fall time frame), IAD 756 (March) and a LAX 756 (April). All of this is tentative, some more than others, but that is the “plan” so far. We may also elect to maintain some of the s-UAL 752’s that were slated to go away a little while longer to cover some of the flying lost with the closing of the UEX base in CLE.

That's a novel approach, replace RJ feeder flying from 39 cities to CLE with 757s. Dubois, PA will be excited to hear this. What will they think of next?

A lot of CLE business was point to point flying for businesses like the Cleveland clinic. My guess is they will cut down frequency and fly once or twice a day with the 757 to the bigger cities.
