ALPA would simply charge us an assessment as they have many times in the past, it's my money, I want it, it's been a year. Our union is weak, and ineffective, we are bound by the Railway labor act, and there's no leverage for us. Our PAC is outgunned by PROFESSIONAL lobbyist, and our beloved LUAL ALPA guys only care about their own, the ALPA pin means nothing to me other then legal and aeromedical insurance. Give me my cash..........

L-UAL ALPA guys only care about their own, right? Who did L-CAL ALPA care about when they proposed stapling every L-UAL pilot hired in 1997 and beyond to the bottom of the list? L-UAL ALPA showed more "care" than that with their proposed list. Take your give me my cash line to your lawsuit buddies. Geez. I hope this isn't the kind of crap you dish out for four days straight.

I threw my pin in the garbage for a different reason. I am a MIGS, I contribute to the PAC, and I have picketed several times. HOWEVER, I grew up in a union family and I explained to these actual union members what happened during our contract negotiations with the 76 seaters. They chuckled and said, "that's not a union".

THEN I found out that LUAL pilots DEMANDED I wear the pin. Well, that just makes me not want to wear it EVEN MORE!! :)

What was their union background? It's hard to think of many union members that have managed to avoid economic and market realities. Well maybe older UAW members to some degree thanks to the Government and sticking it to new hires.

You can try and grey this area up all you want but it is so black and white that I'm sure you'll get it someday:
You may not like any choices but there is no not choosing.
ALPA
Management
Scabs
Go ahead and keep it up and just know that the overwhelming majority of Old CAL and UAL pilots won't waste much time wondering which of the latter teams you're on.

No need to be SCARED son but while you're standing in the rain by yourself you may not want to drink the water running off you nose ESPECIALLY if it has a strange odor and a yellow tint.

Read again...non threatening post. Don't care if your scared or not...just not gonna do any of us any good with a bunch of confused pilots.

FYI...it's only the pilot profession that does not use DOH to merge SLs. Ask your "union" family what they think of your SLI proposal...then get back up and preach about unionism.

If you would read my post. They were briefed on the 76 seat issue (which I will not rehash). They then said ALPA wasn't a real union. Waaay before SLI. I haven't talked to them about SLI. Why so quick to defend SLI?

Not defending SLI...that was the milestone that occurred the same time a bunch of confused pilots became slick ties. Good move, I wouldn't talk to them about SLI, time to pick a side and move on. Good luck in your grey world.

Why would it be embarrassing for me? Are you saying it was one-sided?

Trying to remain civil...maybe you can consider the premise of my proposal. No one really likes unions but they are debatably the least of the 3 black and white evils. But you and many others seem to be searching for some grey area in between. I propose when you choose another side besides your union, you are hurting yourself and your fellow pilots. It's a free country, but not wearing your pin just sends a confusing message that I'm sure management enjoys.

I won't bother responding to the BS but I will respond to the first paragraph because that's the root of your problem. In the 27+ years in the airline business you seem to have made some pretty bad decisions. When you ended up at CAL your career looked as if it was finally coming around. When Jeff, JP and Tilton showed up they brought in UAL and you felt your life taking another nose dive. Especially after JP filled your head with lies. If JP had been honest and played by the rules, all United pilots and that includes you CAL types would be better off in many ways.
You can keep whining, not wearing your ALPA pin and blaming ALPA for all your bad mistakes if you want, but time is moving on and if you do have 29+ years in the business you probably have don't have a lot of that left. I'd suggest you take the time left and get onboard and enjoy some of the your remaining time at UNITED.

It's truly amazing how professional pilots, grown men, can't seem to manage their own expectations....

ALPA never was, never has been and never will be a pilots personal bargaining agent... Does your Congressman or City Council sit down each session and say "how can we make Joe Smith's life better?"

So when boys take off their pin and pout, it's really a head game in their own mind.....

Management loves these guys.. who are self made cracks that they can drive their wedge down deep and hard.... divide and conquer... the oldest game in the book... the easiest game to play... and we've so many that have been played...

So the bottom line is... do you want to cry and pout that you didn't get what you thought you should get, (not what you deserve) and be a management tool or do you want to unify so we can build on the current contract and make this career better...

No, you called yourselves Brain Surgeons, I believe it was when you referred to the Frontier pilots as General Practitioners. I am sure you were only looking out for their best interest as well.

You've got no factual or convincing argument to show that voting down the TA was a good move... just a belief system... a sense of bravado that makes you out to the the tough guy in conversation... that you were willing to take a STAND and be a MAN! Talk is easy...

But that is in the past now, and you still want to hold onto that baggage that you can't control or change....

Time to move on... whether you are right about the JCBA or ISL or whatever baggage you hold onto, having angst towards your fellow pilot is futile and what management loves...

Do you want the best contract we can get or do you want to be mad/dis-unified... can't be both...

We will never be on the same team. Ever. I know you don't care. When even LUAL pilots think that the SLI award was good for them and not good for LCAL pilots (you said I should be embarrassed by the award...not the proposal...but the final award). Why would you care? I do know that the award didn't do much to build unity with its youngest members. Enjoy us. :)

I think one of the biggest problems is expectations... Jay P. and company did a very poor job... and even though the CAL proposal was outlandish, it made an impression and created expectations...

Why do you say 'with its youngest members'... on the CAL side, the youngest members gained quite a bit... more bids, more seats, more domiciles, more WB capt time in career... what am I missing? Need some insightful feedback...

I've flown with enough LCAL pilots that want to be on the same team to be satisfied w this job. Most spend a fair amount of time voicing their displeasure w too many of the CAL young fast tract all about me era. Big company...pretty easy to bid away from you. Anyways, the way the vacancy bids keep going...not too worried about guys like you that want to run solo.

Pretty sad that what I think has anything to do with your choice to turn your back on the only defense we have at this point. Pick a team and don't hide it...at least JP let it be known he wants a path to management.

Flew this week with an '85 scab that sported a 25 Year Pin. Be sure to give him a big grin when he passes by next time. At least he wears the pin! Integrity is for sale in Herdon.

Our youngest members that will retire near the top of the list someday. That isn't good enough apparently because they have convinced themselves that they are entitled to everything right now. Me, me, now, now,.....instant gratification or I pout. I guess this is a result of growing up in the "everybody on the team gets a trophy" era.

I don't think that a CAL pilot hired when I was being a 4 digit number senior to me is a good deal for me. I accepted it and moved on. Sad that you never will.

No fence sitting here.
I WAS with you. Now, I am not. We are no union.
