Default CLE Base

Looking for input on the CLE base as an ATL commuter. Pros: lots of family who live close by (no need for a crash pad), similar length commute, small base. Cons: Reserve forever, UAL has gone from 3 to 1 flight a day and an RJ nonetheless (DAL has 6 big airplanes/day). Really my biggest question is about the commute and reserve. With the hub gone options on UAL went from mediocre to bad. Currently IAH based but seeing some base trades on the 73.

Thanks in advance,

HT

Sounds like you just want a free place to stay. Is CLE worth it, especially in the winter? Really, CLE winter over IAH winter? Stay Classy... stay IAH.....

That's not it at all. It's where I grew up and my family all still live
there. Don't get me wrong, I like IAH.

That's definitely the first time that I have ever heard the words "Houston" and "classy" used in the same sentence

Have to agree with this.

The downside to commuting to Cleveland is the lack of flights. There just isn't the frequency there used to be. I guess if Delta has the lift... The good thing is that you would be nearly the only one doing it. That's a tough call. Good luck. On a related note, You'll love being in the Cleveland Base. Great little base. Great crews. Great Office. The CPO in CLE is awesome. I'll probably catch hell from the APC tough guys for saying that, but its true. I have been IAH 2yrs, and EWR based 1.5 years before I was CLE. Cleveland is great, you'll love it. Also Cleveland has way better beer.

Thanks. This is exactly what I have heard. Any idea if there are many XJT commuters since they have a base there? I'm at the bottom of the commuter pile in ATL with XJT and SKW all above me.

Not many fo commuters. Can't think of one that flies in. Not really many captain commuters either for that matter. Most everybody drives (pit, cvg, cmh etc)or lives locally. As far as the xjt side I can't comment. However, It's my understanding that the Cle xjt base is pretty much the same as the UAL base. It's filled with local guys who really want to be there. You'll love it. You can always get out. The hard part may be getting in. Good luck brother.

Keep in mind that Frontier is starting service to ATL to/from CLE. They have two jumpseats on all Airbuses. I'm not sure what the frequency is going to be but it's something to look into. Good luck with your decision!
