EWR to LGA
Rumor is if we are scheduled to fly a trip from LGA when our main base is EWR, transportation will be provided? Or reimbursed at least. I don't have a car.... So no parking either place. Can I expense a cab?
Anyone know the scoop? Thanks |
From the contract. Learn it early and often.
4-D-4 When a Trip originates and terminates at an airport that is not the primary airport of a Pilot’s Base, he shall receive a mileage allowance of twenty-nine cents ($0.29) per mile or the mileage rate found in Company policy, whichever is greater, for the actual performance of the scheduled trip calculated for the round trip driving distance between his Base airport and the airport at which the trip originates and terminates. Further, he shall receive twenty dollars ($20.00) per hour plus per diem set forth in Section 4-A-1, calculated using the applicable time listed in the table directly below. However, the provisions of this Section 4-D-4 shall not apply to Surface Deadhead between LGA/JFK and IAD/DCA. Airport Pair Travel Time EWR-LGA 1:30 EWR-JFK 1:30 MDW-ORD 1:45 DCA-BWI 1:10 IAD-BWI 1:45 SFO-OAK 1:00 SFO-SJC 1:00 SEA-BFI 0:45 IAH-HOU 1:15 LAX-BUR 1:15 LAX-ONT 2:15 LAX-PMD 2:30 LAX-SNA (LAX-based pilots only) |
If you haven't tried it before, sign up for Uber. Way cheaper than a cab, way more reliable. They'll pick you up anywhere.

I'm a DAL guy, and sometimes commute into EWR to get to JFK. There is a van service between EWR and JFK/LGA. I've paid $15 in my uniform. Just go down to baggage claim and tell the folks at the Ground Transportation desk what you want to do. An alternate is the Jersey Transit train from EWR to Penn Station, then the LIRR to Jamaica and a cab to LGA. That will cost $30-40.

Anyone know the scoop? Thanks Double Town and Cross Town. Double Town is the mileage and hourly expense that you are entitled to IF you are based in EWR and Flying a Trip that is both out of LGA and into LGA. Already explained in above thread. Cross Town is when you fly out of one airport and back into another airport (ex out of LGA and into EWR). The company must get you back to your original airport via ground transportation which counts as a ground DH. in the example above you would fly out of LGA and then land in EWR. The company would need to ground transport you from EWR to LGA at the end of your Pairing. However ... you may request and the company must provide your request to put the ground transportaion on the front of your pairing. IOW you can call the Hotel desk and tell them that you'd rather get the ground transportation on the front of your pairing from EWR to LGA. Then when you land at EWR you are done. That way you can park in EWR. If you get company provided transportation in the cross town example ... you do NOT get the double town expense reimbursement. |
The Airporter Bus works well too. $24 one way EWR to LGA. Bus usually comes every 15 mins. Use to have a booklet bought at grand central $9 between LGA and JFK.
|
LGA/JFK on the Airporter is now $13 ow, although you can still buy the booklet which drops the price by $2-$3.

Uber has a $20 surcharge on all trips between NY and New Jersey. The quote online is $128... Why is that a good deal? I'm obviously missing something...
