Default Good LGA hotel for a commuter?

Live in DEN. Based in EWR. Got a trip next week originating/ending in LGA instead of EWR. Any recommendations for a (good/cheap/safe?) hotel around LGA to stay in the night before?

Thanks

You may want to look at the PanAm. It's in a working class neighbor with plenty of places to eat and a subway stop close by. It's been a number of years since I stayed there and hopefully some of the more recent guys staying there will chime in. They have transportation to both JFK and LGA which makes it a plus. As I remember, you don't want to stay there on Friday night - they turn the restaurant into a dance club that generates a lot of noise. They treat crews well.

I know of some commuters who stay at the crew hotel (Marriot) right across the parking lot at EWR. I heard they give a crew rate but it may be a little on the expensive side but it is VERY convenient.

I used Priceline all the time. Name your own price 3star usually would get you 15-20 bucks less then crew rates. Few times (us open in town) did I have to pay over 100 bucks.

Dont know the rates, but the Holiday Inn across from the airport is a good hotel with a great restaurant/ bar in it. And you can walk to a Mets game

Thanks for the info.

I put together this list of hotels around LGA that were close enough to have transportation and she started calling.

Only one was under $150 a night for a crew rate and that was the God awful looking Airway Inn. We ended up Pricelining for a hotel. Got the Marriott below for $115 plus taxes. And this was for a Monday night! They quoted over $200 for the crew and I believe it was $239 on their website. I hate this stuff.
