73 vs. 76T

Greetings! I'm a new hire that starts class in a few weeks, and it looks like the class drop is 73 and 76T. If I have a choice, which is a better deal? I live close enough that I can sit reserve for any NY airport from home. I currently drive to JFK, and I am looking to go out of EWR as much as possible (I live south of the city). I understand a higher percentage of 73 flights depart from EWR, but the pay scale is lower. What am I not considering that I should be, what don't I know, and what am I thinking is a bigger deal than it should be?

Thanks, and I look forward to flying with you soon!

Probably the fastest way to a line and better quality of life would be EWR 737. Once the training backlog of Guppy captains is fixed, EWR 737 will probably be the jr. base and equip.

If you are local to EWR I would recommend the 76T. I would only suggest the 737 if you intent to eventually go West.

there are 100 vacancies on each the 737 & 76T. 100 people below you in the 76T will get you a good line in EWR. 100 people below you in the 737 will still keep you on reserve (I speak from experience.)

And the majority of the reserve pilot flying in the 737 in EWR is actually out of LGA. If the line holders get a LGA trip they quickly trade into a EWR trip or drop it.

And there is no difference in pay from the 737-800/900 and the 757-200. So unless you're senior enough to bid the 767 trips, pay is a non-issue. If you like sitting at home on reserve, the 737 is for you!! I've been here since 9/2013 and have a whopping 101 hours in the plane!

Congrats on getting a class date! I've been here since 11/2013 EWR 76T FO. 90% of the flying is to Europe on 767-300 out of EWR which mostly includes three LHR per day along with GVA, AMS and CDG. 75 Premium Service flying is exclusively out of JFK to LAX/SFO and goes senior. I only sat reserve up until March. Since April, I've had a line and flying only out of EWR to Europe. I average 13 days off with 80+ block with 90+ credit hours so you won't hear me complain. FO's get $4.50 international override which helps too.

Reserve was relatively better than regional with ability to pickup trips or short call. We are extremely short on crews so expect to fly a lot on reserve.

Please feel free to message with any other questions. Good luck in training and welcome to United!

You guys on the 76T may be short on crews. But the EWR 737 is way overstaffed with FOs. Reserves hardly ever fly.

Ace, do you commute? Is it a commutable schedule? Do you plan to stay in EWR?

So all 737 is paid at the 737-800/900? The payscale on APC shows a 500/700 scale that is less. (I am referring to post first year)

The 500s are all gone and there aren't many 700s in the system. The blended rate is based on the ratio of number of airplanes. The difference in the hourly rate of the 737 vs76T is negligible. I just transferred from the guppy to the 76T and my rate went from 131.50 to 135.20

Mind if I ask what the thought process was to transfer (+/-s).
