All musings about Nazi POW camp set sitcoms aside, a few questions for those who got the call, or who have been through or are in the process currently:

1. Has anyone received the phone call this week? The only calls I've heard of happened before the weekend, so it is possible that all calls for June interviews have gone out already.

2. Can anyone who has already made it through the Hogan portion enlighten us as to the process of acceptance or rejection? (I am assuming the company is not following a strict schedule on this, and that the timeline is going to vary from case to case, but it could help to establish a general timeline.) What is the longest anyone has waited to hear back about the Hogan?

3. If you are willing, please share your qualifications, specifically any special boxes you have checked that you think may have helped you stand out. (I am assuming most of us have a few thousand TPIC and part 121 experience; far fewer will have graduate degrees, heavy jet time, etc.)

If you don't want your moniker attached to any of the above information, you may also PM me and I will post it anonymously for you- thanks for being willing to share.

P.S. To my generation, Hogan was a big muscly guy with a handle bar moustache who thought us to train, say our prayers, and take our vitamins.

Question. I've had my app in at airline apps for a while now. But I haven't heard of the hogan test. Does united send you the info for the test. Just want to make sure I'm on the right track. Thanks all and good luck!

The Hogan is an online personality test that is an initial part of the interview process. When UAL calls you based on your airlineapps profile, the first screening step is to assign you the Hogan test. From what I am told, the failure rate of the Hogan is around 1 in 10. If you successfully complete the Hogan test, the next step is an invitation to the actual interview.

In other words, you do not need to worry about the Hogan as part of your application- it is a screening process for selected applicants.

Got it. Thanks for the info!

I'm not sure where your getting your info from, but I would say the Hogan test is the hardest part about getting hired. I know quite a few people who did not pass the Hogan portion and therefore aren't given the oppurtunity to interview. These are people I really enjoyed flying with and in my opinion have great personalities. Not sure what "personality" United is looking for, but I would guess much more than 1 out of 10 don't pass that test.

I'm not trying to be a Negative Nancy, I'm just saying don't think of it as some stupid test that means nothing. It will be the deciding factor as to whether or not you get some face time and get to sell your real personality.

Called in November for hogan. Took it on Friday night heard back Monday morning. It's two sets of 200 true false questions. They range from I don't like loud noises to I felt loved as a child ect ect. There is no trick. Just don't think about what you are reading and answer honestly. Be consistent. Some questions are repeated verbatim multiple times. Interviewed December 11 in Denver. Good luck.

That's my guess anyway.

And in the end, they will still end up hiring the same cross section of the pilot group: 10% stars, 10% dogs, and 80% average line pilots who will come to work and do the job safely and professionally.
