Default May FOU?

Any idea when the May Flight Ops Update will come out with all this fleet and base "right sizing" alluded to by top brass in recent communications?

Or did they already discuss it and no FOU needed?

May 23rd there was a Crew Resources Outlook that came out that in general said there would be displacements this fall. Of course we have been told numerous times that the company won't do this because it is too expensive, yet we've done it 3 times already in the last year.

The one from last fall said they would shrink the guppy bases in EWR and IAH and grow the Bus there and shrink Fifi in DEN and ORD and grow it in EWR and IAH. Still waiting for this one.

73 base in EWR appears to be growing. Going from 350ish FOs last year to 580 after recent vacancy bid.

Sort of.

The MIN/MAX grid for the recent 737 (14-08) vacancy listed 580 for both min/max in EWR 737 FO. Note the same grid for EWR 737 CA is 433/436 and un-augmented fleets typically require more CAs than FOs (vacation, sick, etc.)

This is a deceptive number because EWR is currently the "junior" 737 FO base and Manpower Planning (oxymoron, I know) is rightfully anticipating movement out of the base or upward into other aircraft. They need a place to assign new-hires and the bid assures a large "unfilled" vacancy.

In addition, the most recent (14-10) vacancy bid listed 464/488 for the mix/max.

July PBS shows 427 FOs in category and there were 100 vacancies two bids ago, with 92 unbid and headed for newhires........and now my head hurts.

There is quite a bit of growth planned for the guppies out west and those crews have to come from somewhere. I would expect a sizable reduction in EWR and IAH as the west coast bases grow. Since all new hires are going to EWR, it will always look bigger there than it actually is as they bring the new hires in and wait for other positions to be shifted out. As the bus shrinks out west, the guppy will grow.
