Dropping a Trip
I am trying to drop a trip in July - not over the holiday or anything like that. I have never dropped before so I was hoping for some guidance.
I read on CCS that drops have to be done with the crew desk. I called crew scheduling and they told me I need to speak with the "Futures Desk" regarding July. I spoke to the Futures Desk and was told that drops are done by the pilot via CCS but he has no idea how.

First of all, WELCOME! Sure glad to have some new faces. Unfortunately, dropping trips here at UAL is pretty close to impossible, especially during the summer. You need to go into seniority trip trade, and just select your trip without adding anything to trade into. Then you specify whether you want it for vacation or just no pay. Then the system looks at coverage and awards if the coverage is adequate. Of course, it never is. Whether it really is or not! The only way it really works is if someone wants to pick it up. If it's a 3 or 4 day, it pretty much never happens. A 1 day is a different story.
The other animal is to go to the CPO's office and ask them to get it dropped for you. If it's a "life event" they will help, but they are getting pressured to keep you flying from above... especially in the summer. But if it's a wedding or funeral or something, they WILL get it done.
I wish it were more flexible, but it isn't. Which is why sick leave goes through the roof sometimes
