What do you think about secondary displacements in Chicaaago sled?

Seattle.....really...are we gonna really debate this issue with Sea as an example????

Please let's not waste our energy debating SEA.

As far as IAH and this apparent overstaffing, look at the facts:

1. We are a growing airline

2. We are actively looking for airplanes in the used market

3. IAH is our biggest HUB

4. IAH is a historical L-Cal base with very junior CA's due to an ISL award that was disproportionately biased against the CAL pilots.

5. Very little time is needed to fix any surplus as the airline retires pilots and organic movement within the airline shifts the staffing to the correct levels.

6. LUAL pilots are disproportional awarded all future training...any seat, base and fleet is almost all going to LUAL pilots thus any displacement will harm LCAL pilot because of our lack of bidding power. Where displacement to LUAL bases still leave LUAL pilots with a wide array of choices and options.

7. A displacement bid in IAH would be a tremendous attack on the spirit of the merger and would cause LCAL pilots to lose trust with this management and their intentions going forward.

8. We have an Union that cares nothing about the plight of the IAH pilots thus a clear case of misrepresentation and bias against the LCAL pilots from a Union that is turning its backs on a base and pilot group it care little about.

I don't know but this assessment seems overly biased. Could it be there simply needs to be a realignment based on some future objective? Does there always have to be an agenda? And lastly, it's not as if these displacements will result in a loss of Captain positions. They'll just have to move or commute, right? Welcome to the airlines.

You sure about them pulling out more 320's?

Not for sure but I think it is inevitable.

So Airhoss,

If you were in charge and your pay was based on profits, what airplanes would you base in Denver? And, what airplane would you be a Captain on?

Just like to know what you see from your viewpoint.

Well since the 737 seems to be the under capable little darling we are going with it is a mute point. However that has absoloutley NOTHING to do with the question I asked kilder. I am just curious if he feels the same indignant rage at the displacements and base closings that are and have occurred throughout the system. Or is this simply a case of butthurt now that he might have walk a mile in those shoes?

Kilder,
You're very young and immature. If something as trivial as a future surplus in IAH has created this much tension in your life, I wonder how you'll deal with true adversity in the future.

I think of some of the older ex-Cons that I've flown with - ones that were there in the pre-Bethune era - and I imagine that they hold their heads in shame upon reading your posts in this thread. Those guys dealt with more stress in a month than you've dealt with in your entire career.

This is the airline industry. One day you're at the top of the mountain, the next day, vultures are ripping at your flesh trying to kill you. It's just the business.

The IAH base has experienced several negative developments that are causing a drawdown in the base.
Southwest aggressively moving into the city.
NASA drawdown.
Falling oil prices.

The beancounters, many of which are ex-Cons, have decided to reduce the size of IAH. They are doing that to make sure that we all get bigger profit sharing checks. You and anyone else in IAH who are suddenly crying over the injustice of the decisions made from on high, while being silent on the decisions that negatively impacted others, are going to find no support from those of us who have been through this in the past.

Kilder, bottom line, no one outside of IAH cares. And I doubt that many in IAH care much.

I think Kilder is Staller's brother from another mother. Where is Staller, anyway.

Kilder:
We are not a growing airline, we are stagnant, except for putting bigger RJ's on 50 seat routes, and putting an extra row or two of skinny seats in our narrow bodies. We have fewer airframes than we did at the merger, and are parking 757's faster than we are taking delivery of 900ER's.

Close your eyes, tap your heals together, and say it three times;

We are not a growing airline.
We are not a growing airline.
We are not a growing airline.

We are, however, a very inefficiently staffed airline.

Under what???

What are you comparing the 737 to??

Please don't try to compare a 737NG to the airbus...please...

Same day...same city...Airbus takes a maximum of 150 pax while a 737-800 takes 166 pax with 4 more in first...

With regards to base closings and displacements...You keep wanting to make SEA an issue, but SEA had issues before the merger and now with Delta moving in there was no way SEA could remain some sort of a "one Long haul flight a day HUB".

Like I said before, displacements to LUAL bases do not affect the LUAL pilots as much as any displacement will affect the LCAL pilots with a similar move due to the loss of bidding power.

I a time of 1000+ hiring environment, this does not bode well...if we were experiencing a downturn we could all understand any move by the company...not in today's environment.

We are not losing 737 cities out of IAH we are just moving that same flying to other bases, in DEN, the company is moving specific aircraft away from that base...very different scenarios....

And that's the problem Andy...we have an Union that has responsibility to care and it's obvious that it doesn't

Also the past difficulties of many pilots were not caused at a time when there was major hiring, fuel was at an incredibly low price, no major war and no economic downturn....very different than what we are seeing today...

If we were experiencing the problems of the past I could agree with you..but that is not the case today in today's environment...

Kilder, let me guess. sub 30 years old, hired straight into an RJ out of some aviation school. Hired by UAL 3 years later.

Here is the deal.

There are always wars. There are always economic ups and downs.
The price of oil always changes. It spiked in 73, 82, 90, 2002, and 2008. Sound like a trend? The airlines had huge furloughs in 78 (85 recalls) 90 (96 recalls) 2001 (05 recalls), 08 (2011 recalls). My guess is you have seen less than one full cycle.

You actually just sound like the aforementioned sub-30 year old entitled, angry, turd. You probably complain for an entire 4 day trip about how you got screwed.

You, and the rest of us, are simply living through another cycle of the world. With a merger between 2 airlines thrown in just for the fun of it.

At the end of the day, the senior guys at both airlines are senior and have nothing to worry about. The middle guys have a little bit to worry about, but will still maintain their jobs no matter what (I am here). The lower third have to worry a bit. Both sides in the lower two thirds can belly ache all they want about being screwed. It won't matter, and nobody cares.

For the most part, this forum has gone past the us vs them mentality. There are still a few. You are one of the few.

If you don't like your place in life, just leave. I have, voluntarily, twice. I came back, twice. I know that a few of the black team that I fly with are not happy, but they treat me with dignity and respect at work. Most of them are just regular coworkers who treat me as another coworker.

Vacancy bids happen. Displacement bids happen. The first are good, the second, bad. Especially when a lot of pilots have lived and worked there for a decade or three. For some, displacements are good.

But, that is the life of an airline pilot.
