And the hat looks absolutely foolish on some. It reminds me of Ralph Kramden and his bus driver uniform.

We could all wear prom dresses and it would make no difference to anyone.

You certainly wont see a bunch of hat wearing L-UAL guys whenever "hat season" begins. In my view, that's more than a fair trade off for the ten year beating we took until Delta gave us a contract.

I agree with the guy that said the industry is imitating a military style uniform to make the people feel better. The hat especially is overkill. We are not boat captains. When I'm commandeering a ship I'll make sure to wear a hat. In fact I think now at days even those guys don't wear hats. The only way the public will feel better is if the pilot looks professional and preferably his weight is proportionate to his height. Slapping on a hat on a slob won't make a difference.

Not exactly. The pilot uniform as it is today really started with Juan Trippe at Pan Am. It was a nautical theme, a ship captain's uniform. Not meant to copy or imitate a military uniform. He carried that nautical theme throughout Pan Am, the aircraft were called "Clippers" and given names, etc.

I don't remember the EXACT details of why, but at former company a pilot did something and the policy was 2 weeks off unpaid to "go home and think about his mistakes" type of thing.

However, it happened in summer and the company was seriously short pilots. So they told him they were going to delay the suspension till the fall schedule drawdown.

That sounds about par for the course. I know guys at my company that have gotten suspended over occurrences for 3 days. The company always asks if they will take them on their off day so they don't lose pay. Trying to come off like they care, instead its just to make sure their paper thin staffing isn't disrupted.

Your poll essentially says wear a hat or be unprofessional but you are not a rah-rah hat guy?

You can't have unity against management with a fragmented group of pilots. That includes uniform standards....as well as an ALPA pin.

I'm sure there is a point to be made here amongst this discombobulated rabble? Right?

Lets see if I can inject some facts here for you.

The ALPA pin shows unity. Duh.....

The hats came off in a show of unity when the company was dishing out pay cuts but in particular when after promising, up, down and sideways that they would NEVER consider EVER taking the pension. Took the pension.

Still trying to get your point? Is it by being a good little company men and wearing our hats we show unity? Because that doesn't work.

I was on your side, but it is amazing how someone can destroy their credibility in a second. You are in the wrong sandbox here.

You were on my side about what?

I doubt Nicolau would have given us that since we didn't ask for it. But, if he had given us LOS, no I still had little use for them. While many of the US pilot problems came from the MEC, I think national failed on many issues and I'd rather have an in house union. That said, I voted for ALPA over USAPA, because of the situation.

Back to the topic. Sorry for crashing your UA party. I came here to see what you guys thought as I'm hearing some scary stuff about ours. I actually like UA's, although it appears they may not be of the best quality. Thoughts?
