MIL leave and CASS

Are we still able to jumpseat OAL while out on MIL leave?

Hilltopper89 11-09-2014 06:26 PM

you can JS on United while on MIL LOA. OAL is dependent on the respective airline. The company is NOT obligated to maintain you in CASS, however most of the time people are still active in CASS.

In other words on UAL your good, anyone else don't depend on it.

MIL leave and CASS

It has nothing to do with the off-line company and everything to do when your company pulls a pilot with a Leaves of Absence or MLOA from CASS.

This!

And if your company is vindictive about mloa then make sure you let your company know happy veterans day!

I know Ual used to do this to their mloas after 30 days but I think they finally wised up after becoming uch.

My buds at other majors don't report such behavior recently.

MIL Leave and CASS

Talk to your domicile chief pilot's office and ALPA Mil Affairs. This happened to me last month and I found out that UAL/CAL recently merged portions of their pilot databases that feed into CASS and in the process some of us on long term mil leave dropped off a few key lists and thus out of CASS. You also need to make sure the company has a current copy of your license, medical and passport.
Prior to this SNAFU I have had no trouble jumpseating off-line.

I always thought you had to be an ACTIVE employee to JS, even on your own airline. Maybe MLOA is different.

I just got back from a long ml leave with UA. They have to take you out of cass if you are not an active employee. Short leaves you are still an active employee. So I've had no problems. Long leaves, they remove you.

Well don't tell most other companies the "have" to take you out cause it just isn't true.

It's a UCH decision to take you out while on any length of MLOA. Just like it's the companies decision to allow your family to non-rev while your on MLOA.

My company sent me an email after going from furlough to longterm MLOA status informing me that if they wanted to put me into CASS I needed some new fingerprints and copies of my current documents, which I complied with and they added me to CASS while on long term MLOA.

So please do not make excuses for UCH's treatment of long term MLOA (over 30 days) and try to make it sound as if they don't make a choice.
