Smisek interview

Purely my personal observations flying with each side. I came after the merger so the only dog I have in this hunt is unity and success. The vast majority are for team work and long term success but when guys "take sides" that's where they seem to be. That said, and I think a lot have this experience, where the CAL vs UAL attitude seems to be most pervasive in the flight attendants.

The company is working that out. Hiring on the Black side, furloughing on the Blue. A couple of early outs, and viola...the 2 sides are getting very close to the same size. Better for voting in a Cal-like JCBA, which btw, is what I hope happens. Our FA contract is straight out of the '50s. There are manpower rules in there that we gave up in C2000. Nice to have in Never Never Land, but not realistic in the real world where non- union DAL and productive SWA are chewing at our butts.

When you furlough a lUAL FA, I believe they keep most of their benefits, including health insurance. This gets expensive really quick.
Now they offered a couple of thousand FA's an early out, and they took it. The problem is a lot of them were already furloughed or on LOA's, so it didn't reduce the rolls of active FA's that much.
