It's not that bad. Both trains have overhead spots for roller bags. Not any different than deadheading on a flight.

The Airporter bus has a luggage rack also but it is a pain going up and down the stairs to the train with your bags when it's crowded. I got stuck on a bus once for three hours because of a crash in the Lincoln Tunnel- I will happily lug my bags.
