Not hard at all. I don't remember my IOE flights from being a newhire, my IOE flights when I returned from my first furlough, or my IOE flights when I returned from my second furlough. They were as memorable as Probe described.

By the way, you DID notice the equipment that Monkeyfly listed, didn't you? That's not a fresh datapoint.

As far as what's next, just look at what the worst destinations are for your aircraft and plan on going there while you're on reserve. If you're lucky, perhaps a few exotic international destinations like SVMI (CCS) and TTPP (POS).

It's often just an LCA's awarded trip that you're put in. That's why FOs bid to fly with LCAs hoping to get FBOd when an OE replaces them. For specific info go to Flying Together, Flight Standards, pick your aircraft, and there's an OE Guide that lays out what the LCA will be doing with you. If you want to further control the process, find out who the LCAs are in your base, look up their PBS CAT Award, and by-name request a specific LCA to do your OE with if one of his trips looks good to you. For bonus points, look up the LCA's email address in the Flying Together people search function and contact him directly asking if he can do your OE on that trip because you "heard he was such good instructor." They're not above flattery.

2 Landings and an Auto land didn't learn ****, except the ice cream sundays on transcons are awsome! couldn't even check all the boxes so needed another OE trip. That was fine kept me off reserve for another 2 weeks.

737-200 back in 1997. DEN-ABQ, my first leg with UAL. In the left seat was a standards captain serving as my LCA. Observing him was another standards captain sitting on the jumpseat. The guy that was on the jumpseat is quite the character and is still around today. He always reminded me of Jeff Foxworthy. So we takeoff out of DEN, thunderstorms all over, and finally break out in the clear and get up to cruise. I get a tap on the shoulder, look back, and he says in his best southern drawl "boy, yer scarring the @#**! out of me!" I look to see a pile of rubber dog crap sitting on the jumpseat with him. How's that for breaking the ice! Good times.

The one thing I remember about my first leg with UAL. On push back request I called myself Cactus (Ex AWA). That did not go over well....;)

737-300 1st leg ever IAH-RNO for a 50 hour layover up in Tahoe. All a blur after that.

Awesome! Good times. First trips on IOE are hard to forget, I remember my first trip at the regionals, while walking to the hotel room in Monroe, Louisiana, some kids swimming at the pool yelled out, "Excuse me sir, are you a limo driver?!"

Looking forward to my first trip at United.
