The author of this article says he has a source at UAL that says we are thinking about ordering the A380.

Qantas pilots I've run into around the world have passed on their nickname for it (best when said with an Aussie accent):
The Flying Vagina: Not much to look at from the outside, but quite nice once you're inside.

I view this as unlikely. I'm sure Airbus is desperate and offering steep discounts though, enough to get them to think about it. The A380 works OK for a very specific type of market and route, but it lacks flexibility and is difficult to fully utilize, so it's a big risk even with all the sweeteners Airbus can throw in.

NEVER going to happen..
We'll get 74-8's (as a short term 74-4 replacement) before getting a handful of A380's.
However, IF it were to happen, it would be a slap in the face to Boeing and we would feel the repercussions of it for long after this management team is gone~
Slow news day in the airline business/investment world.. so come up with a cool/crazy rumor.

Boeing is also getting desperate to sell the 747-8's. Even though they are desperate, and will do a lot to sell them, I think this is a trial balloon to float on getting a better deal from Boeing.
Jeff doesn't seem to like the 747-400's, but I think an A380 would be even worse.
Nice rumor though. Might finally get some west coast senior flying moving...

Bring it on! I'll have my name at the top of the bid page!
I really don't get why so many pilots belittle some of these rumors. The rumors about the 737s from COPA, A320 from China, 777s, and the reduction in the 50 seaters all came true. The practical issues of routes, service and such aren't my problem, I get paid to fly the jets and the A380 pay rates (and a bunk) make it the most attractive airplane in the sky.

A380 would be a disastrous move. Airbus is struggling to move that beast since it's so specific on the type of missions it can fly. They haven't even broke even on it and have no buyers for it. There is a reason for that now. A350's make way more sense and they are coming. We have a sim purchased now but they don't know where to put it, since the training center is up in the air. They don't want to move it to DENTK and then have to move it again, since the costs are as much as the sim to move it.
