Default DCA 320 Reserve

I'll be on RSV on the bus in DCA in October. Can anyone recommend whether I should get a crashpad near DCA or IAD? I will mostly be commuting into DCA, but a friend told me that RSVs are put on FSB in IAD quite regularly. I know we cover BWI as well, but I have heard it isn't as common to get BWI assignments so I'll cross that bridge if I get to it! Thanks in advance!

All FSB's are at IAD. They hand them out like chicklets. Same with the SC assignments. It sucks, especially if you commute.

3 and 4 FSB's per day, along with another 3-4 SC's.

Day one of 6 and you're the only 6 day guy (and there are multiple 5-4-3-2-and one day guys available) they don't care. They will build an assignment just for YOU, because doggone it, you're special! They never used to do this. So, you either head for the drome and rot, or sit SC, even if they already have 5 other guys on SC.

On your last day of 6, they'll still put several of you on SC or FSB. What used to be a relatively decent gig has morphed to fetid miasma. Long call is becoming an abberation. Sorry, I am slightly jaundiced.

Welcome to the new U. Its not your fathers Oldsmobile anymore.

Thanks for the informative post! Sounds like a pad near IAD is the way to go!

Default New to the show

Going to training soon and hoping to bid dca or ewr 320. Reading the previous posts and curious what fsb's stood for. Also is DCA the primary airport like (ewr covers lga but most trips start and end in ewr) or in DCA, are the trips pretty much split up between dca and iad? My commute to DCA, IAD and EWR are all fairly the same so just wondering the best choice. Thx!

Welcome to UA!

FSB = Field Stand By (i.e. sitting at the airport)

The base is called DCA and pilots cover DCA, IAD, and BWI but the hub is located at IAD and that's also where you will find the chief pilot's office.

I've been on reserve in DCA on the bus Aug and Sep and now again in Oct. I bid aggressively in Aug and got 80 hrs. So far 1 four day trip in Sep, 2 SCs, and 1 FSB. IMHO, it's not so bad, but I live in base.

Consider yourself lucky on all accords. I've had 4 short calls and 3 FSB's this month so far. And most of the short calls are for day 1 so you have to go up

I consider myself lucky. Period. I'd rather stand 18 SCs a month than to not have this awesome job. I know a lot of pilots that would give anything to be in my shoes.

SCs. FSBs. Bring 'em.
