The pay raises are basically to keep pace with inflation. The 10% gain is because this contract was approved 3 years after the amenable date. The 3% gains are designed to keep pace with inflation. There was no raise. FedEx pilots realized they have hit the top of the scales and aren't asking for crazy raises like Delta is.
As stated in the article, "FedEx is banking on lower costs from new airplanes and increased productivity to help offset the expense of the new contract."

Increased productivity for one. They now have 6 week bid months. The entire holiday season will be covered by one bid.
Also they're years past their amenable date. The increase pay should've happened a while ago so without nuking out the math they're losing money if they'd ratified this same contract on time.
5 year delay to a 57% ratification. Their mgmt def won this round.

We were 2.5 years past amenable date. As a WB Capt. I'm getting a $39,000 signing bonus. My hourly rate goes to $286 on 01NOV. I'm ANC based so every trip has a $10/hr override.

Was that removed from the TA somehow?
Edit: Interesting, a few clicks and I'm educating my FedEx buddies. I stand erected.
