I bet some guys are going ***? Especially civilian types that have been working hard to get noticed. I think this is finally great news! The supply of military pilots has finally drained so much that they need to search a year to a year and a half into the future. Not only that they are offering interviews to guys that have not even flown since the Reagan years. The airlines have no choice now but to hire the dregs of the regional world! I bet they will be hiring guys with turboprop time by the thousands to fill the gap until these guys are available.

I received the same email about 9 months from availability. Background is 3000+ mil attack IP/EP. I continued to update my app and sent an email to the address they give you at 6 months out and received an email to start the interview process within a week. I received a CJO 5 months prior to availability.

Jim,
I don't want to sound like a wet blanket so please don't take offense. You might be very qualified for what they are looking for today. But as more time goes by, you may fall in the qualification game. The interviewees are chosen by a computer. As you continue in your desk job this year, you may fall out of whatever criteria the computer looks at for recent experience. My take is the email was not an invite to interview...it was more of a "let us know when the time gets closer and we will take a look to see if you have all the squares filled".
They have so many applications to sift through...for class dates they need to fill NOW or YESTERDAY. There will be plenty of empty seats for you when your time comes. I'm sure your numbers and quals will still be highly desired when the times rolls around.

Didn't matter if it was Stuke, Rhyne, Cuiloir, whomever....
I believe that DAL sent out some similar emails a while back. Something like "We find your qualifications to be competitive, when you are within (can't remember the months) of availability date please contact us to start the interview process".

To the OP, piling onto pilotgolfer's point, keep this in mind. For right here, and right now, there's A LOT of guys that aren't even getting through the HPI. Let alone even get selected to even take the thing. While they're not selecting/getting nixed by the HPI they're getting hired at (insert other good job here) and well on their way to having just as good, if not a BETTER career.
It's kind of/sort of like a hot chick telling you, "I'm gonna divorce my husband in a few years, I'd like to date you, But I won't date till the divorce is final, will you wait for me?"
And it's safe to say that of the (insert XX,XXX) of apps they have on file, there's easily thousands that are available TODAY, TOMORROW, NEXT WEEK, NEXT MONTH, and in the NEXT SIX MONTHS. And those pilots come from BOTH mil and civ backgrounds. Lot's of boxes checked, job fairs, meet and greet (or two), etc. I run into more and more. What the process will be in a few years, who knows?
Given UAL's lack of forethought in general, it's amazing they're looking that far down the road.
And for anyone that want's to retort with "pilot shortage", ummmmmm, yeahhhhhhhh.........
