Ben, your 'recollection' of opposing LOA 25 directly contradicts mine. I had a phone conversation with you for more than an hour on the matter, explaining how badly it would screw double furloughees. You blew it off, telling me that I would get back a bunch of my furlough time after the SLI. I got exactly zero days of furlough credit after SLI because I already had more than five years of service and the LCAL pilot placed above me was hired in '09.
Let's be honest for once. You voted no on the JCBA because you were worried it would pass. You and quite a few others were trying to do what LCAL's FAs have done successfully since the merger - keep the two pilot groups separate. LOA 25 was a scheme concocted by someone at LCAL that would surely kill any JCBA. Quite ingenious, really. One helluva poison pill.
You were all in favor of LOA 25. To characterize your opinion of it any other way is complete revisionist history. All of that's history now but you don't get to rewrite your part in it.

Both. That am we had to vote on lump sum distribution methodology, loa 25, and 3 votes On the contract (accept, mem rat& endorse) The contract. I voted agains all for said reason. I am not attesting that I voted no on the contract for loa 25. I voted no because I saw no reason to support lagging delta or squandering our retro and agreeing to work for less than delta. Once it was clear that loa 25 would pass, we concentrated on how to kill it.
While loa 25 was disgusting, it was not the reason I voted no.
I only saw it for 20 minutes before the vote. I didn't take any phone calls during that period. Your recollection is not accurate. There was no time to take phone calls between loa 25's presentation and the subsequent vote.
-Ben.
Btw, on my phone and auto correct is killing me.

I didn't like the TA for many reasons some of which Ben has brought up. Never saw a thing about LOA 25 until it was in print. But to guys like you, I was part of a vast conspiracy to kill the SLI. The only reason for a CAL guy to have voted NO was to steal guppy left seats. It's so wonderful that guys like you stand by blanket accusations without giving any thought that perhaps those of us at CAL voted based on individual judgement.
The black-eye of LOA 25 will stay with us for some time. No doubt JP didn't think LOA 25 would get off the negotiating table but JH played the LCAL side of JP/JS and it did. Many, myself included, were outraged that LOA 25 was included in JCBA but it did stop the caranage of senority and theft of Captain seats. JH has been asked several times, why LOA 25 and he continues to refuse to answer. It's possible since he represents ALL United pilots today there is no benefit to the pilots to rehash it. Hindsight, I don't have as much heartburn of how LOA 25 came about as I do with Why was LOA 25 included in a vote issue when it should have been a condition to start negotiation on the TA. JH needs to answer that simple question.
Regardless of which side of the issues we fall, I think it's commendable that you come on an open forum and receive/take shots and enter the banter on issues. It's possible the makeup of the LEC/MEC leadership would change if more of our reps did the same. Thanks!
