I earned my 4 year degree by working my ass off on a soccer field for 18 years, so maybe my Daddy made that happen indirectly, but he certainly didn't put forth any money that I "****ed away". I graduated in 4 years flat because that is all I could afford.

I also took out a big ass loan to pay for flight training, Daddy didn't pay for that either. I went from 0 time to CFII in 6 months, again, because that was all I could afford.

No calls from any majors yet. I have had my apps in for 2 years.

You are to be comended for your hard work and determination....You are part of an elite minority that actually "earned" a college degree.

We are all type a personalities that are incredibly driven. I don't think you are going to find many people who you want to get into a dick measuring contest with in this profession. I am still amazed at how many great people are out there.

Good work, but you didn't mention how many hours and what have you been doing since. Do you have true Captain time, turbine, regional, check airman, instructor for more than an FBO or any other leadership roles?

Qualifications are a progression with age and when you got your ATP, but good on you for getting the degree and flight time.

I WAS offended by a DAL recruiter, after telling me how he worked his way through college over an 8 year period ask me why I didn't finish in 4. (Hint: I worked my way through college after getting my AA, and was flying for a regional) Worked out pretty well for me, but odd how the line I have been hearing since 2001 was "any degree, from any college" and now some places are starting to get a bit 'snobbish'
I think they do it to see how you react to it (translated, they want to break your balls to see how you handle it). I interviewed at a major many years ago and had the 4 yr college degree box checked. The pilot asked me if my college offered any thing more "technical", in a snobbish tone. Take the high road!

I took 5 1/2 years to complete my 4 year degree.

At age 20 I became a CFI and was flight instructing part-time and was a full time college student. In my 4th year of college I got a Part 135 right-seat job in LearJets 24/25, with 1200tt and completed the next 3 courses one semester at a time.

Is the above explanation good enough for DAL, FDX?

I would say it sounds good. The issue is getting past the algorithm that may not see 5.5 years as acceptable. So frustrating.

Yes I do have true captain time a good amount of turbine PIC. I am a mother of a two and five year old, so I have not had the opportunity until now to take a regional job or a higher position such as check airman or CP. So my time is on the lower side, but still meets minimums for everyone. I do volunteer work. Everyone has a story I guess.

The whole 5.5 year thing at Delta is the most asinine short sighted policy I've ever heard of. Who ever thought of that over at big D should get a stupid trophy.
