It's a strange algorithm is all I can say.

Were they in the "short stack"? I am beginning to believe nobody really knows why people get interviews. One day you hear you need to go to job fairs to get points, the next day it appears job fairs don't matter; next it is volunteering, but plenty of new hires did not volunteer. Some guys have not updated their app for a year and get a call. PFM!

You know if I knew what the "magic" formula was to get hired by UAL I would sell it and make a bunch of money. But I do know this, the number with degrees, 6000 hour +, no DUI/DWI, clean flight records, Line Check experience, APD, Officer in charge, Academy, Captain (not just PCI) time and more is rather high.

So for the rest keep working on these things and don't accept being a senior F/O and enjoying your days off when you could have upgraded to reserve Captain. If you have a partially completed degree work on finishing it instead of watching the latest sports event.

Life's short, senority is everything and no one ever looks back and says, "I'd wished I'd drank more beer." Well maybe some do.

This thread has devolved. ;(

Honestly, not that I know of. Many of us bewildered how one of our friends got hired. (Even he admits he has no idea, and I know him well.)

The point is whether I want to drink more beer now while making less money, or more beer later while making more money.

Yup. It can, and does, happen.

Of course there were the other 99.8% that had one......

Those that are hired without the degree probably earned it by being an ambassador to this industry and showed leadership, management, and longevity in this business by not quitting during the lean years and fought, scratched, and clawed their way to a pretty great career.

Kudos to United for seeing that in them.

Ambassador to the industry? What does that mean? They showed "management "? Dude, are you retarded?
