Here the language for easy reference....

"Subject to other legal obligations, the Company shall make reasonable efforts to fill Pilot vacancies with the individuals who satisfy United’s hiring standards, who have previously worked for carriers represented by ALPA, and who are no longer working for those carriers for economic
reasons such as lay-offs or the shutdown of that carrier. "

It doesn't happen very often where UAL is hiring and other carriers are furloughing. But I think this particular statement was put in when UAL was hiring, Delta had furloughs, and Pan Am was going out of business. It's been a while ago. We also picked up a bunch of Continental strikers back in...1988-89??

I know I gave out a few applications to furloughed Delta during Desert Storm in 1990.

Thanks for the clarification!

From last Friday's Flight Ops Update.

New hires and leave returns 2016 - 550

New hires planned for 2017 - 1106

New hires planned for 2018 - 1236

Number of new Captains - 450 (unsure of the timeline didn't say)

Number of aircraft we plan to have in 2017 - 767 (vs 739 planned in 2016)

Oh course the standard subject to change caveat.

I don't mean to be a skeptical Sam, but how have our recent hiring projections stacked against actual hiring numbers? With retirements, it's hard to tell. Surely someone has sifted through that data so that my lazy butt can just read the cliff's notes.

Which will shortly I'm sure.

I believe this section was a major reason I was invited to interview. There was not a box to check on airlineapps.com when I first started trying to get hired at United. I went for years without getting a call. After the box appeared (and I was able to check being ex-Comair) I got the email invite within a month.

Nice to see my 16 years and a battle star count for something!

I truly hope this will happen. But I believe it when I see it.

I haven't seen numbers for the number of new hires...but it seems the junior guy system wide is always around 12,500. That looks to me that hiring is just keeping up with retirement. That's just a cursory look at the numbers.

Yup.

A year ago "they" were officially saying 1000 in 2016. Obviously that didn't happen.

Hopefully the combination of consolidating the training centers and the arrival of the new 737-700s, 777-300ERs, and A350s will result in the BIG numbers we have all been waiting for.

We will see.....
