New Hires
The company New Hire plan is as follows: 19 in January and 20 in February. They did not publish any numbers beyond that point because they haven’t updated their plan.

Future Vacancies
The current backlog on 777 Transition Training is into March and any remaining need is not
needed until Spring unless a major change is made by Network Planning. So, at this point in
time, the company is not planning to discuss the next vacancy bid until the January SSC
meeting.

I suspect the deferral of 61 Guppies is gonna leave a mark! :(

So is the January 24th class cancelled?

Retiring 30-40 a month, hiring 20? I'm no math person, but I'm pretty sure that's not how you go from 12.5K to 16K pilots. For the last year we have basically been hiring for attrition. Even with the couple new airplanes we have received there are exactly the same number of pilots as when I came aboard two years ago.

I am just the messenger. Obviously they have put the brakes on BIG TIME by deferring the Guppies.

See the MEC update dated 15 Dec.

Why do people believe the 16,000 number when all other numbers have been changed? Aircraft orders deferred. Accelerating 747 retirements. Reducing new hire class sizes and dates.
It obvious the 16,000 has changed as well. New management just hasn't spilled the beans as to what the new plan is that will change again shortly.

Because many pilots are delusional and choose to cling to any scrap of optimism no matter how ethereal or improbable. This is in spite of years of direct experience and other blatant evidence which proves this view idiotic and unrealistic.

I know it's hard to tell on the Internet, but I was being facetious. I think we have all been around long enough to know to never believe anything until it is "on property".

To put my thought in plain English, I agree that I would not expect a lot of classes going forward until they clear out the 777 pipeline, which will be I think the beginning of summer sometime. At which point they will slow down hiring because it is summer.

That doesn't make any sense. What does training FO's on the 737, 320 and 756 have to do with 777 Captain upgrades?

My guess is that the plan for the SNB has changed in the last few months. The plan for the 777 still seems to be growth. So the reality is that the SNB is now overstaffed until guys head to the 777. When we start trending to the min in each SNB base they will begin to hire again to fill the need. Last crew resources updated made mention of the revised plan and overstaffing of the 737/A320 in most bases.
