The last time I had to deadhead home on a day of I was paid only the flt time @ premium- not 5 hrs. The union concurred.

It was only a 2 hr flt. No fatigue call was involved.

However, more recently an FO told me he had to do the same thing and faked the DH and did get paid. It was the result of a fatigue call.

A DH only back to base is not considered a reassignment, even on a day off. However, in order to capture the pay for DH on a day off, the pilot is entitled to both 20-L-6-a Late Pay and 20-L-6-b Day-Off Pay. Each of those are 50% Add Pay, so the pilot would get 100% of the value of the DH as Add Pay.

The DH only, reassignment and day off pay or restoration topic seems to come up frequently. The reference can be found in Next Steps 11 from July 2014:

FLYING FLIGHT SEGMENT vs. DEADHEADING: Under the UPA, a pilot is considered to be reassigned when he receives one or more new flying flight segments as defined in Section 2-Y (a deadhead leg is not a flying flight segment). A pilot who is unable to complete his present assignment, and who receives only new deadheading to return to his base is NOT considered to be reassigned. For example, consider an IAH pilot whose trip is scheduled to end with an IAH-AUS-IAH turn and, due to late operations, he ends up with a layover in AUS. If he is given an AUS-IAH deadhead the following morning, that is not a reassignment, since at no point did he receive a new flying flight segment. (Note that in accordance with Section 20-L-6-e [copied below], the pilot will receive Late Pay and Day Off Add Pay for the deadhead. He will not, however, have the day restored under Section 20-N because a late return is not a reassignment.)
