It might have been useful "19 years ago" when an assignment was probably made with a call to the ops area, then a page from folks at the desk--long before cell phones made that obsolete. Now it's nothing more than an attendance roster that can only be used against you.

Jeez fellas. It's NOT required. You won't get a call from the CP if you don't sign in. And I'm sure there are lots of rebels in DEN that don't sign in. It's more of a courtesy to the other crew member and the CSR that yes....probably goes back to before cell phones. Relax. Goosefrabba.

If it's not required then we should simply end it. It's not a good thing to carry on a dead legacy. Allot of silly traditions need to end. Allot of unproductive things need to just go bye bye.

Does someone during in doc or during IOE teach the sign in sheet ? Maybe a base secretary, ACP or flight manager? If so, needs to end. Union should insist on it.

How does the rules on bottle to throttle, etc come into play with FSB and /the sign in sheet?

....Anytime while on duty and for eight (8) hours prior to reporting for duty. Duty includes the following:
– All flights
– While on Reserve status

As far as I know, FSB has not been done in recent memory for wide body. 757 might be the exception. You really can't do it much because of the duty day for most international trips. Some of the domestic trips, yes, but there aren't many of those.
Yes, fairly sure. It was a clipboard that had "flight 482 - SYD" and then 3 spots for names and "flight 577 - CTU" and then 4 spots for names, etc. Looked to be filled out as well. Agreed, never seen it before but thought I'd mention it since this came up. Should probably ask the local what's up.

I have seen the FSB list too.

It's not too often that you see a company, the military, or an airline for that matter doing things procedurally that they don't have to do or add inefficiency to the operation. At UAL we do things that are inefficient and for me it's hard to take them seriously when they run around with no fleet plan, vacancy bid, then displacement bid, Starfleet memo's on on-time performance, and a host of other silly flight ops bulletins. When I see the FSB list, and no pay for FSB I just shake my head.

I see leadership chaos and overlapping and redundant levels of leadership. Then I see a FSB sign in sheet and I "get it." This is just another redundant, overlapping, and useless procedure.

Last year I got a FSB assignment and I told them no. The roads were too flooded for me to attempt to drive to the airport.

BTW, if this was the sign in sheet to get paid, I would sign it. Probably could put an app on the IPAD for that though.

No kidding! Its called FSB not FOSB (Flight Ops Stby) What if someone wanted to spend the 4 hours out in the terminal, sipping on coffee and watching people walk by? Or in a parking lot for that matter.
