For every guy that is doing true service there are others that aren't. Believe it or not just because someone was in the military doesn't mean they are the paragon of virtue. I want the company to keep everyone honest.....even the Mil leave guys. As long as calling isn't against the law I don't have a problem with the CP verifying that someone is where they said they were going to be.

I've had more than one fellow UA pilot brag about their abuse of mil leave over holidays and other manipulations. Maybe it was just cockpit bravado but some guys enjoy telling the world how they have lied about mil leave to be off.

I suspect there is some "cockpit bravado" and some truth but I agree the company should do random checks as to the legitimacy of mil leave drops. The are big advantages to retiring from the military and there is some downside as well, namely deploying to an active combat zone and possibly becoming injured or killed. But for the rest of us who have to fill in the gaps we would prefer that those mil leave drops are legit. I'd like to remind the Mil pilots that serving in the reserves should only inconvenience you and your family not impact the personal lives of the rest of the pilot group.

You have gotta be kidding me. Sorry, but I'm not sorry if my service causes you to have to do the job you signed up for, instead of sitting at home.

Unfortunately for you, military service impacts more than just "me and my family." It's an inconvenience to private corporations (like United), and an inconvenience to the other employees. If you think you have it bad, imagine being a pilot at a small corporate flight department where one of the 4 pilots has to deploy.

That's just part of the costs we all must shoulder to further our national objectives.

I can't believe you really said this.

Do you feel the same way about those who take FMLA time off because their kid has cancer? How dare they negatively impact YOUR personal life!

Thread drift

You want the company to keep them honest? GMAFB. As soon as you submit a doctor's note for every hour of sick call that inconvenienced anyone else, you can say it's cool to "check up" on Guard/Reserve guys in the off chance that one of them may be fudging their days. Pathetic. I'd say they're entitled (by Federal law, if not by common sense) to the full benefit of their mil leave. They aren't retired yet, so save your grandstanding for the kids on your front lawn. Thread drift indeed.

Every employee should feel accountable for Sick List. Call in Sick too many times and you get to produce a note for every time you call in sick. That is irrespective of your background.

If one guy is lying about his days then he gives the entire group a black eye. If you support guys being dishonest about Mil leave then you and I will never agree. I suspect they wouldn't be checking if they hadn't found a few being dishonest.

If you aren't "fudging" your days then you wouldn't have anything to worry about. I get the impression you are arguing that MIL guys are above reproach. Yet we had two in Scotland have issues just recently that made worldwide headlines.

Your last sentence shows poor taste. Some things are best not said and that's one of them. Can we stop thread drift about FMLA and other non-pertinent issues. We are discussing Mil Leave and I recommend we stay on topic or drop the whole thread.

Sorry for more thread drift. But...

Sick leave is a contractually negotiated benefit. I honestly don't care what you use it for. Use it or don't. It's your right to use as you see fit.

I wouldn't be arguing the companies side...
