I personally like having options, such as once the kids leave home, I can bid for a west coast wide body and have 787/777, A-350 CA to look forward to one day. Commuting is a pain, but with a 10-12 day WB monthly schedule and the pay that comes with it......well, nice to have the option to leave the 3 leg a day NB flying for a while.
Not to mention the benefit of living near the training center for easy sim support pickups. That's easy money right there. Different strokes for different folks....I'm glad we all have options now after the last 15 yrs. |
Driving to work is definitely the key for sure. But for me there may come a day that flying 2 or even 3 legs a day NB domestically will get old. I see it with some Denver folks. Take a bid to SFO or LAX WB, do 2 or 3 trips a month, Hawaii, Austrailia, Tokyo, etc and done for the month. Just nice to have options IMHO.
Cheers! |
indeed...now to just get rid of all those RJ's

Exactly, unfortunately depite getting something like 30-50 more NB's(737/Airbus) in the near term, we can't get enough of them to take back all the flying, yet. Seems like that's all we do out of Den on the Bus is old RJ flying. The pendulum is definitely swinging back in the right direction. Now if Delta would just hurry up and vote in their new contract. Snapup.....

Some perspective from the SWA side....Took me 6 mos to hold DEN. Guys after me were getting it in 3-4 mos. Spent 3 mos on RSV and now holding a relief/composite/blank line. It's also one of the jr bases for CA's.
No WB for UAL in DEN and better QOL at SWA is what caused me to cx my UAL interview. YMMV Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk |

But you can't sit home on reserve and get paid to sleep.

I thought Swa reserve was always used?

That's what I thought too. When I commuted I had a Fly pref and was used all but 1 day a mo usually. DEN has a lot of guys that pick up open time so when I got based there I switched to a Pass pref and didn't work 3-5 days a month on rsv. Spent an avg of 7 nights away from home every month on summer. It was awesome.
