Trump & Job Security
#21
You guys/ gals need to get your panties out of your cracks. What Trump did is throw out the rules of the past. He is a unknown. He doesn't play by the establish rules of the entrenched parties. Relax boys and girls. The dems were not doing organized labor any favors in case you have not noticed The republicans are not interested in putting us all in chains to work for free.

You do know that trump is a 70+ chalky old man that will likely support an age increase for pilots - 70 here we come.

There is no pilot shortage! stop saying it. 11K apps on file at United. 11K, let that sink in. Job fairs, interview consultants....when those things are gone then maybe, just maybe I will believe there is a shortage.

You can see the writing on the wall how NAI and ME3 will be leveraged against US labor to extract concessions..."Unions have to agree to "x" or we open the US market to the world...". I'd be shocked to see ALPA even mention what SOS would look like until months after we actually need it.

On what point? Baseball moving to Mexico instead of Canada for Wx considerations - trump being a 70+ chalky old man or trump not seeing the age restriction as anti-labor and discriminatory.
I didn't vote for trump but those that did opened the door wider. Don't blame ALPA and remember that it was bush Jr. that had the age changed from 60 to 65. 70 can't be that far away and we'll have United pilots retiring with 45+ year careers. That's a good thing for pilots - right?

It might sound like a lot of competition now, but another year or so of everyone hiring and our recruitment team might be singing a different tune.

Sigh... Many of those 11K have apps in at Delta, American, FedEx, UPS, JetBlue, etc. Also how many of them are low time guys, shady backgrounds and so on that are swinging for the fences just because they meet the low hour requirements we have?

What you say makes sense, but we have yet to see the first regional fatality. While hiring has been tough at the regional level, people are still coming in the doors. We have seen some tremendous pay growth at all levels. We haven't seen any consolidation at the regional level yet. That industry segment is still the same size it was 3-4 years ago.
