Was hoping MCO was an easier commute but understandable.

Have you thought about moving to base and commuting to your reserve job? Life in base is pretty good...

If I move to base, I'll probably try to transfer military units to one also close to base. I'm trying to find an easy commute, or no commute at all, for both UAL and the military.

A lot of mil guys may not be familiar with the cities or regions that have a lot of pilots living there and as such a bad commute. You picked the absolute worst of them. Except maybe SFO-SEA/LAX. But what can you do...your reserve job is there. Just know its going to be very hard, each and every day. Expect non-rev lists 20 deep. But at least we can list for the JS 5 days out.:rolleyes:

You could also keep the UAL employee fare in the cross check. I've seen tickets below $100 the morning of a flight as they attempt to fill the seats. I think this may even be more of a thing with the new bare bones fares.

I'm also a TPA guy , I always here TPA - EWR is horrible .

Ok so you miss your commute and miss your trip . What are the rules you guys have for commuters ? I am sure you have protection ,

I mean what happens , you loose the pay for the trip , say 25 hour 4 day. Are you just out 25 hours or is it pretty easy to come up with stuff in open time to find another trip ? At jetblue I believe once you called in missing your commute , you simply just loose the pay but I think your blocked out of that 4 day period to get that money back with another trip , which really sucks . If That happens twice in one month and your out several thousand dollars .

Knock on wood never missed a commute but I do Tpa - jfk not Newark .

I've looked at TPA-EWR cursorily over the past 4-5 months. The early flights usually have seats. If you're willing to go early it's likely more doable. You'd be giving up your last day off that way, however.

I've never had trouble with the EWR-MCO commute but I always take JB which has a great JS policy and system for commuters. That being said, I'm moving to IAH in a couple of months and will be living in base. Looking forward to not having to commute for a change.
