Default SFO 787 Reserve

Hola!

I was wondering what life is like as a SFO 787 Reserve commuter? I am senior enough to hold commutable trips on the 756 in SFO--but could be the junior (or close) 787 SFO FO on the vacancy bid. Thoughts?!?

Also, could I be displaced by the 747 displacement which will occur this fall? And if so, what does that mean?

Thanks for the advice in advance!

As long as you can tolerate the poor sanitation and choking pollution in China for half the month and never expect to actually fly the airplane......then, I think you'll like it.

If you are going to live in base, Reserve is not that bad. I'm not on the 787 but I can tell you Short-Calls will make your life a living h3ll. You will find that the building of Short-calls are arbitrary and capricious. Don't do it if you commute - do it at your own peril.

I wouldn't wish commuting to RSV (particularly global RSV) on anyone.

IF there was a surplus/displacement situation in the BES as a result of inbound 747 bumps, and you were close to the bottom, I think it very unlikely you'd get a bump.

The contract allows for more senior pilots to volunteer for a more junior pilots surplus. It all depends on the junior man list and your number, but I wouldn't bank on getting a bump.

While I dont endorse commuting to reserve, (i have done it and currently do it) But i admit i'm curious on why you think global reserve is worse? I'm on the 400 and in my opinion the opposite is true. -time off after global trip, FAR117 etc.

Short Calls make life miserable for anyone who lives more than about 90 mins from the drome. FSB's too.
